First of all I want to say that I am so pleased with my FS 9. I've put over 1,500 rounds through it and I had one jam the first time I went out. It shoots wonderfully, feels great!

So a few months back I considered a tac light for my 9 and read through a few posts here. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because I just wasn't sure if I really wanted a light on my gun.

Went to walmart and picked up protect for $39. I figured hey if I didn't like it, not too much money invested. Well, I'd put it on the gun take it off the gun, then put it back on. Shoot with and without it and finally I've decided not to tac. There's a number of reasons I decided not to but really the main reason is I just don't like the way it changes the balance of the gun.

The main reason I bought the M&P was how it "felt" in my hand. The tac light, ever so light weight, just makes the gun feel a little front heavy to me. I know it's not much, but it takes away from that love of feel of the gun in my hand. So anyway for what's it's worth to those who may care, no light on my gun... :D

Anyone feel the same way?

Pretty much the same here. Bought a Firefield @ $51 from my LGS to try on my 45c. Stuck out too far...didn't like it. So tried it on my CZ Phantom. Perfect marriage.

You have found a good reason to forego a handgun mounted light. I have two others. First, anything you paint with your light is covered by your weapon, including your teenage kid sneaking in when you didn't know he or she snuck out. Second, your light becomes the visual target for incoming rounds and your weapon is directly in front of your face. Make that three others. Third, you cannot cover a threat and scan for cover or additional threats.
Learning to use a tactical light in coordination with, and independent of your handgun is important. For long guns it's a different story.
