This is s frightening thing.

Watch this, then think what the anti-gun crowd could do with this technology.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. I NEVER conduct sensitive business over the cell phone-too easy to intercept. My rule is that anything I want quiet is done face to face or over a land line (a distant second). I have been taught by many seminars that anything written down or transmitted over te air is vulnerable to intercept.
Say it face to face-better yet don't say it-just wink-better yet don't win k-just nod your head. Call me paranoid but I've been involved in enough criminal cases that one of my great phobias is someone trying to set me up.
BTW anyone seen my foil hat

Have you not been listening to the news , That is how the goverment is tracking and listening to terrorist in foreign countries . This is not something new . The A.C.L.U brought Action against the goverment (Bush )and Obama is still using it.

There really isn't anything to worry about.

After all, Congress passed the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (ECPA '86) This is the law that made it illegal to listen to cell phone transmissions. It is illegal for manufacturers to sell scanners or radios to the public that are capable of receiving certain frequencies that cover the cell-phone bands.

So we're all safe now. Aren't we?

Maybe Congress needs to pass some more laws...

I am now actually happy that I lead an average ,honest, happy, boring life! No one would want to tap into it unless they were an insomniac and needed help sleeping.

Land-lines are NOT land-lines anymore. I am sure a phone guy on here can tell us more, but for many years, land-line signals have been converted to microwave signals for transmission. So, even land-line conversations travel in a very interceptable form.

Yep, I agree.

The chair is against the wall....

Something else to be aware of, is the fact that portable home phones are easily picked up on any police scanner that can be bought at places like RadioShack.

My brothers good friend caught his wife cheating on him, and when it looked like she might get the kid, and eveything else, he caught and recorded her off of a police scanner while she was talking with her new boyfriend on a portable phone. He played it for the judge (there was a long conversation recorded that let the judge know just what she had been doing, some of it lies told to the court about things she claimed he had done to her), who, upon hearing it, awarded him custody of the kid and most of his belongings.

...

And, of course, the law went just a little bit further than that. It became illegal to sell receivers that could be modified to receive, also. I used to own a PRO-2006 that I modified to receive 800 MHz cellular back in the day. Of course, at that time cell phones weren't real common and traffic was mostly limited to folks informing someone that they would be home in a few minutes.

I was in the Marine Corps at that time, and we all thought that might be good policy. Announce your arrival in advance - that way you don't get your feelings hurt!

The PRO-2006 might be the best scanner ever made.

Enough about that,

.

I have nothing to say that anyone wants to hear. Even my wife doesn't listen to me. If my phone is tapped, whomever is bothering to listen has a really, really, really, REALLY sucky life.

Caje,
Isn't trying to "set up a lawyer" a bit like having a job being the Ohio Blue Tip strike anywhere match tryer-outer, at a gasoline refinery?
