Sounds like armed guys in Church got the bad guy

If you watch video you will see just how fast something like that can happen. The whole incident took about 10 seconds. Hats off to the fast response of the security team.
Very happy the murderous perp met his maker in record time.

The video on liveleak is good, unedited quality. It should serve as an example of how these incidents should be handled.
After multiple viewings, you can stop and study the scope of the response. There are multiple parishioners, all armed, covering the point of attack from multiple angles. Nobody is rushed or disoriented in their armed response.

Well done fellow citizens! You have our prayers and best wishes as you contend with the aftermath of this tragedy.
Sorry for the loss and suffering of your fellow members of your congregation.

The church has had an armed security team for several years, according to a church spokesman. The victim who was killed was on the team, and another team member was the one who shot the perp -- who was already in the building and at the service when he got up and walked toward the back before starting shooting.

Glad you think so. Maybe it's a perspective thing, but to me it looked like the security guy got swept by at least two of the responders as they walked down there. Then the first guy down the center aisle ends up facing TOWARDS the security guy with a raised gun. Really?

I give them 10/10 for wanting to do something, but a bare 5/10 for method once the guy was down.

Superb shot by the security guy from that distance on a moving target.

They did a good job. In our church about 8-12 of us carry with permission from the pastor. Last year they hired a deputy to be on hand during services..........Shame a place of worship has to be under guard.
BUT! Schools and churches are supposed to be soft targets with no resistance. That's why the bad guys choose them

Can't help but wonder if those folks were expecting trouble of some sort. Almost as though they were just waiting on the shooter. In any event, it went down as it should have. Kudos to the armed citizens.

I sat for 10 minutes deciding if I would watch the video or not. I decided to as a learning tool. So, I watched the video and there's so much going on... much more than someone like me can analyze.

Two things I noticed:

It looks as though the first poor individual who was shot may have been trying to unholster a gun carried in the 4-6 o'clock position but was never able to draw. After the shooter pulls out his weapon, the individual sold up and sadly, it looks like he either was hesitating or got hung up on the jacket or retention on the gun. He immediately became a target.

After the shooter is down and the person who shot him is up near the front, checking on the shooter, another person in dark red followed by a person with a black shirt comes walking up through one of the aisles and appears to be sweeping half of the congregation with drawn guns. Likely bad nerves and bad training.

Like I said, a lot to learn from this video.

Are you kidding me?

(1) They let that dude in like that. If the way he's dressed does not automatically set your Spidey-Sense a-tingling, there's something wrong with you.

(2) "Security" Dude #1 took a shotgun blast to the chest. Thinking he's dead. That makes it a loss.

(3) The only guy within arm's reach of the shotgunner appears to be unarmed, and makes zero attempt to interfere with his draw. Who the hell is that dude?

(4) After the shooting starts, I count seven different Boomers and Neck-Beards draw their guns and start wandering around the immediate area. There's no way to identify any of them as friendlies.

(5) Not one of said Boomers and Neck-Beards acts until LONG after the good guy drops the shotgunner.

(6) Absolutely no-one with a gun turns around and scans the other exits for another shooter.

Total dumpster fire, and a pretty good example of why I'm so often critical of the "church security team" in execution.

NOTE: I believe that it's improper to criticize the obviously-deceased security dude. He's dead, he did his best, and he's not even properly-buried yet. Don't a scumbag.

That church in White Settlement isn't too far from Wedgwood Baptist Church that had a terrible shooting some years ago. When I lived in Ft. Worth, I actually was a member of another Baptist church, not far from where this shooting was.

We were back there about 2 months ago, due to a family wedding. They had church security staff in readily recognizable uniforms at all the entrances and in other places, and all were carrying openly.

One thing that I noticed in this video is that after the shooting several other members advanced with drawn weapons, not a low ready, but in shooting position. In my opinion, this is a recipe for disaster. In the heat of the moment, and without any way to identify, it would be reasonable to assume that someone in that position is another attacker.

I guess this stuff has been going on forever. Knucklehead has an axe to grind and takes it out on innocents. I mourn the victims but don't celebrate the death of anyone. Yeah, he deserved it but I wish the whole thing hadn't happened.

On the other hand, is there something recent going on, like a concerted effort by domestic terrorists? I hope the parisshoners and especially the heroes can move forward, without lasting effects.

I think I need to chime in, constructively.

I have no problem with reviewing an incident as if doing an after action report (AAR). What I do have a problem with is criticizing the defenders, we weren't there in their shoes.

What stands out to me, is if the Church has a standing security team, they need to train and practice as a team, not a haphazard collection of do-gooders working independently.

Please remember, these parishioners are everyday people that never expected that today would be their judgment day. They most likely expected a normal day listening to their pastor.
