I need a hand (the part that rotates the cylinder) for New Century (triple lock) in the 14,000 range.

I looked at Numrich's listing for the Model 1917, but am not sure the one they offer will fit a New Century Model.

Pictures are always best to insure the new part matches the old.

Is it having a cyl "carry up" issue or is the pawl missing?

A carry up issue doesn'y usually need a new pawl. And it will usually take more fitting than just adjusting the cyl teeth.

Response

I sent the gun off several years ago to a restorer who then had a stroke. After four years and many emails, the pistol was finally returned to me this week. No restoration work had been done, but it had been disassembled and put back together. Whoever assembled it did not put in all of the parts.

When the cylinder would not rotate I pulled the side plate and confirmed that there is no hand present. Since it is Target Model New Century I want to get it in working condition.

Most of us know the Chicoine situation. Just be happy you got (most of) your gun returned. No idea of the interchangeability of early vs. late N-frame hands. Perhaps someone in the gunsmithing area of this forum could provide useful advice.

Sorry to hear that!

I know it might sound futile, but was Chicoine's son contacted to alert him that the hand is missing? In the meantime, I'll check my 1917 and New century to compare the hands. Also sending you a list of sources I've gotten New Century parts from by PM.

I was able to use an oversize N frame hand from Power Custom. It had to be made thinner by removing metal from the side the pins are on by rubbing it on a diamond sharpening stone. Then the larger pin had to have a slight flattening on one.side to fit into it's hole. But it all works fine now.

Thanks everyone

Does anyone have an email for David Chicoine's son? I will query him about the missing hand, but as one of you mentioned, I'm not optimistic.

Thanks for the information on Horace Ford. I will contact Fords about working on the pistol.

I may have one in my parts bin, send me a PM and I'll take some measurements of it for you.
