I started a thread last week about my new to me 2nd model 44 Target. I went and shot if Sunday and it is a fantastic shooter but there is a problem. The nice tight groups it was shooting were landing about 10" high at 25 yards and 2' or so high at 100 yards.

Problem is the King front sight blade it was wearing is too short, rear sight is bottomed out and we're still way high. I whipped up a blade on my lunch break at work, nothing fancy just some mild steel strap I put in the mill and thinned to the same dimensions as the King. I shaped it by eye with a file to approximate the shape of a pre war 38/44 Outdoorsman front blade and serrated the face 50lpi. It's the right height now and it looks nice but it kinda bugs me that it's replaced a vintage piece of Americana. Plus the King had the square white insert that I really like.

If anyone knows of or has a Lyman, King, Christy, etc blade they would be willing to give up I may be interested.

With your skill and ability, how about shortening the top of the new blade that you made. Mill the 'tenon' off the King sight and silver solder the top of the King sight to the bottom tenon that's left of the sight you made?

Make the total height the same as the sight you made that now gives you the proper POI.

You could also advertise for a replacement King blade in the forums classified section, stating the dimension of the height that you need.
