Back in the day (way back) S&W marketed ammunition with their own headstamo. Made by Federal, IIRC.

Anyhow I'm trying to locate a source for a few S&W marked .44 Magnum cartridges (or just the brass).

Anyone?

thanks,

My guess would be try pawnshops and gunshows. I see a few boxes for sale every now and then for sale there.

There are a couple of dealers on Auction Arms that sell a lot of obsolete/vintage ammo. You could try there, also. I remember the old S&W ammo well. Blue and white boxes.

Good luck with your search!

There were two sources of S&W ammunition. In the 1970s S&W purchased the Alcan factory and manufactured it's own ammunition at this facility. This was located in Alton IL if memory serves. Later ammunition, which is headstamped S&W-F, was manufactured for S&W by Fiocchi. Federal had nothing to do with it, except, possibly, rifle calibers.

Other than the collector value of the boxes...the ammo is rather uninspiring. OLD tech bullets, etc.

Current HP ammo would perform much better.

I just bought two boxes of +P .38's for $20 at a recent gun show.

Rounds are not for shooting. I'd like to find 6 of them that will go into a gearshift knob I'm making from an old, damaged recessed .44 Mag cylinder.

Sounds like a cool project!
