Fellas, it boils down to this. I've got an itch that's not going to go away until I find a 4513TSW. I've wanted one sice I packed a 4566TSW as a duty pistol. In addition to that, all of my .45's are Government or Commander sized steel 1911's. I'd like something different just for fun and a compact lighter(er)weight .45 for carry.

My question is this. Where do you 3rd gen collectors find your guns? Are there companies that deal in these pistols more often than others? Any advise would be appreciated.

J.W. you might begin with the area S&W LEO rep. There may still be a NOS 4513TSW in the "pipeline". On a distributors shelf somewhere as well.

I scanned the auction boards, put a WTB in the classifieds here - and on another board, and perused all the local gunshows.

My rail free, full grip frame 4513TSW I aquired through the kindness of a member here who PM'd me the contact info of a distributor who had one.

My early variant, 6-shot 4513TSW I bought off the auction boards.

Same with my PC Shorty 45 MKII. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

I find mine locally. I'm not a long time collector and don't have a major league stash of 3rd gens or anything (yet), but I've picked up a CS45, 4516, and a 908 in shops all located within 20 miles of where I live. It takes a while to collect this way, but I couldn't afford to do it any other way.

Good luck curing that itch with just a 4513TSW.

Didn't think about the S&W LE rep. Lord willing I'll be back in a sworn position in a few months and can check out that route.

Ive never seen a 3d gen S&W locally! Plastic fantastics and Kimber 1911's seem to be about all you can find in my neck of the woods...

Thanks fro the info guys!

I've bought a couple from forum members, a few from web auctions, a few from gun shop web sites, and a few locally and gun shows. Most of the time you end up paying premium from the auction sites due to the wide spread buyer pool. As for local shops, get your name out to them and what you are interested in buying. A couple of local shops will call me when they get 3rd gens in or possible trading for. Not everyone is interested in good 3rd gen they only want to handle tupperware and 1911. Good luck.

In fact a LGS called this morning about some new additions, I went in an looked at them, all turned out to be 2nd gens, sometimes you have to educate the LGS clerks. Looked at two 669's,both is good shape and a 457.

hey kcode... im just south of louisville and am having a hard time finding a 908, 3913 or 3914... you wouldnt happen to have a lead on one of these would you... thanks

Vance Outdoors in Columbus usually has quite a stock of 3rd gens. Mostly 9 mm and 40, a few 45's. Always police trades. Single stacks are few and far between.
