Was in Okla. hog hunting this past weekend. Went with three buds.
I used a .45 Colt and .44 mag. in the S&W "Mountain Gun" format while my pals used rifles.
The performance of a 255 gr. KTSWC @ 1100 fps +- (out of both guns) was, as usual, on par with a .30/06- with decent shot placement.
I had three one shot kills, with one "finisher" that was probably unnecessary, other than to alleviate the boars suffering (he was going nowhere).
Once again the FO front sights were invaluable.
The largest boar (300#'s) was shot at last light in heavy timber; the only thing visible was a faint green glow of the FO element, which I centered between the hogs ears and pressed the trigger.
DRT, He dropped and flooped like a fish for several seconds.
I will admit to a large portion of luck...

Stands in the evening and still hunting/"spot and stalk" during the day.

That's my kind of hood ornament... lol
Nothing better then good guns, good friends and a few days in the boonies.

Great shooting fun. I`m jealous, but I also expect the hood of that truck had a big dent in it.How many LBS of pork does it take to dent a Chevy hood???

Question for Kaijin, What are your thoughts on using a .41 mag on hogs?
I have .44`s as well, but the .41 is my fav.

They'd never know the difference.
I've used .41's on hogs a number of times. There is NO discernible difference between it and a .44 with bullets of like sectional density (penetration) and decent shot placement, from my experience.

gaijin ... I give you credit for using wood grips on those two big boomers. What distances were you shooting from?

Where?

Where in OK were you hunting? I need a good excuse to visit relatives and try out the 629-6 PP.
Thanks
Keith
