Some of you may recall my earlier thread about my middle kid who is considering attending Embry-Riddle in Prescott, with a plan to major in Unmanned Aviation Systems. But now he's also looking at the helicoptor program at Southern Utah University. Appears to be a well-regarded program. Wondering if there are any grads here or other folks (maybe you Army aviators) who might have additional insight.

Being a pilot is cool and good paying, if you can geta job. BUT you cannot fly without reasonably good mechanics!

My oldest switched from Paratrooper to Helicopter mechanic in 2003. Reenlisted got his FAA Cert and currently makes pretty good money!

I ask him how many Helo mechanics have a pilot's license? Not many: They know why you don't want to fly in one!

Eggbeaters are the hardest aircraft to fly when they're working. When they quit working, they have the worst glide ratio in the industry. If I were going to fly a helicopter, it would be a drone with remote control, with me never leaving the ground.
