Spam Spam Spam Spam....

The ONE TRUE way to cook Spam.
Cast iron frying pan on an open fire. Charred on both sides. Leaves enough grease behind to fry the hashbrowns and the eggs.
This along with the other classic camping fare means people at work will leave you blissfully alone for the rest of the week!
 
Last time I had left over Spam I gave it to the cat.
She sniffed at it, and then went and ate the dry catfood instead.
 
Make up a box of Kraft Dinner per the instructions then mix in a can of corn. Slice the Spam into six slices and fry it on both sides. Arrange the Spam slices on edge, spoke fashion, in a casserole dish. Fill in the spaces between with the mac/corn mix. Sprinkle liberally with parmesan cheese and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

And then you have food.

Believe it or not, Spam will go bad. Can Will Swell badly.

I know, because I keep several Cases on hand for Emergency here

in Hawaii. The swollen cans were at least 9 years OLD. I told

Hormel and they sent me a bunch of coupons for Free Spam.

My Wife(from Minnesota) never ate Spam until she married me.

Now she Loves the stuff.
 
Cubed spam with scrambled eggs and onions-If you want to get real adventerous-open up a can of hot dog chili and pour over it. Tabasco sauce tops it off.
 
I love the Smoked Spam variety - da bomb! We use it as a substitute for bacon. Microwave it until crispy. Good stuff. Mac & Cheese with Spam is also a favorite.

A few years ago the wife and I went to "Spam Fest" in Austin, TX. It was a hoot! Lots of odd balls at that event. Plus, all the Spam you could eat and a gourmet Spam cook off (these were all excellent). We had a great time.

I like mine sliced about 1/4" thick and fried in an iron skillet until it's almost BLACK. Serve it up on some honey wheatberry toast with Duke's mayo, lettuce, tomato and a few splashes of smoked Tabasco. DON"T GET MUCH BETTER!!!

Edit: We also keep a case of low salt, low fat, low taste at deer camp (Wal-Mart had it on sale about 10 years ago), just in case nobody gets lucky on opening day of deer season. We may have to rotate our stock.:eek:

Reading from a book, I believe "War and Civilization", credited the introduction of spam to the Pacific islands and New Guinea area stopping the local cannibals from doing their thing. Seems it tasted so close to the "real" thing they thought it was.
 
I had forgotten my mother's "spam and egg" combination sandwiches from WWII. I am going out and buy a can tomorrow and try to make them again.

I grew up on brown beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes three times a week. Toward the end of the week mom would splurge and open a can of spam. That was eatin high right there.
 
Growing up I was always told the only thing they didn't use off of a pig was the bunghole and the oink. After opening my first can of Spam and hearing the distinctive sound it makes as it slides out of the can I have come to believe I was lied to about the oink getting away! ;)

My dad worked for the railroad, and didn't make a lot. Mom would run the spam through a blender then take it out of the blender and add sweet relish. So every time we went to the beach we had relish and spam spread on our sandwich's. I like to fry mine so's its nice and crispy, dump it on one of those big hoagy rolls with some american cheese and eat while hot. And maybe a spot of hellman's mayonaise. Frank
 
My father-in-law was in the 2D Marine raider BN, He forbade the stocking, purchase or mention of both SPAM and rice... said he'd lived on it waay too long on Guadacanal

LOL. I'm that way with veal to this day. And I retired in '94. :D
