I recently picked up my first S&W (a model 31-1) and became curious about the "TP" marking in the "Special Features" box. I did some (admittedly light) research and couldn't find any literature about this specific marking. I'd appreciate it if I could have some help decoding it. Thanks!

That is a very special pre-pandemic issue model 31. It came equipped with a case of emergency toilet paper in preparation for the coming shortages.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I haven't seen TP before, hopefully, one of our more esteemed and knowledgeable members will be along with a more accurate answer.

Welcome to the forum from the great state of Texas :D

Thanks! I guess I'll have to go about replacing the cylinder with a little roll of toilet paper. :D

Welcome! Is there anything special about the gun as far as you can tell?

"TP" may have also been someone in sales, marketing, a special distributor or dealer. Or the guy who fronted the Heartbreakers. :)

It looks like any ol' 31-1 to me.

The only “T” feature codes in the Standard Catalog are titanium or target. Since you don’t a target trigger, hammer, grips, or stocks nor do you have a titanium frame either, it’s a mystery. “P” is for Patridge front sight, obviously wrong too.

Hope someone else has a better idea

I'd go with factory "Target Pull" trigger action job just to see if it gets any traction! :p

I looked through various amounts of box code data I had and I came up with nothing. Maybe a very seldom used code that someone internal to S&W might have knowledge of?

Hopefully something concrete will surface.

Dale
