Just picked up a new M&P 9 Shield 9mm and am looking for a good magazine speed loader. Lots of good reports about the Maglula/Uplula speed loader but their website has a note saying their loader will not work with S&W SS 9mm 8 round mags, something about the beak is too wide.

Suggestions?

Thanks, Dave

I guess it just proves that "ignorance is bliss" because I happily use my Uplula to load my 8 round Shield magazines. ;)

I took a peak at their website, and noticed that it said the Uplula wouldn't load Glock 36 mags either...when I had my Glock 36, I used my Uplula to load the magazines for it. I've had my two Uplulas for several years, so maybe the design has changed, I dunno....but I've used mine on every gun I've owned (except my revolvers) and I've never had any problem.

Will throw in another plug for the Uplula - works great with my Shield 9 mags, both 7 & 8 rnd. Also use it with my FS 9 17 rnd mags.

Uplula works perfect on my .40 Shield, as well as the Gen 4 Block 19 and the XDS .45.

It works so damn good, our range has started selling them to people.

Guys IM looking for one also. But which one do I get, the Uplula Universal Mag loader or the Uplula Baby Mag loader. I have a 40 cal Shield.

WPS!

Isn't the Baby for .22? Anyhow, I'm sure the Universal version will work. The mag is just a little shorter, after all.

OK. I notice it didn't mention anything about a 40 cal on the Uplula Baby Mags description. Just wanted to double check.
Thanks for your help.

Where are you finding the ammo to speed load with??

The stores around here are running out of everything!!! :(

Speed Loader? Am I missing something here??

NO Offense intended and please forgive the scarcasim. But my 10 yr old son loads all my Shield magazines by hand. (NO speed loader) as well as my G19 mags

I don't use a loader either. I just place the round vertically, push straight down on the nose, then tilt the round and it pops into place, one after another all the way to the last one.

In almost every facet of life, the tools and accessories we use have evolved to make tasks less onerous...like a power-propelled lawn mower, or even a riding lawn mower. Like electric windows and door locks. Like electric saws. Like an electric can opener. I could go on and on, but hopefully you get my point. I'm willing to bet you have and use some of these things, too.

If you choose to load your magazines by hand, or tell your son to do it, that's fine and it's your choice. I don't see any glory or machismo to be gained from it, or a badge of honor, so I'll continue to use my UpLula which saves me time and effort, and gives me more time to shoot...and then load the magazines again. ;)

I do get your point and Sacarsim noted.(Unlike my post)
I NEVER said it was a Badge of honor, NOR did I imply that. I simply stated that I was a little suprised that someone would use a speed loadeder to load a 8 round 9mm magazine. And possibly I was missing something, If i was offensive it was unintentional, If i was being Macho it was unintentional.

I didn't use sarcasm...I was stating simply and directly what I think. I don't see any benefit to be gained from not using modern conveniences, nor do I see it as "weak" to use a speed loader to make loading easier. I also said, and believe, that it is every man's choice.

That's all...no other meanings to be inferred here. :)

Lets agree to disagree. I never even mentioned "weak" so thats on you. I guess if you really want to get down to Brass tacks. Mordern conveniences are nice but are not always gonna be available. Case in point the GPS system which will never ever replace a map and compass. At some point a GPS will not work,Be it a bad satellite, bad weather etc etc. We get so acustomed to these mordern conveniences that we forget how to simply navigate life. I bet if you go to a grocery store not one teller will be able to give you the correct change without looking at the cash register first. Modern conviences has even limited our mathematical skills.
Thats has something to do with speed loaders I am sure

Hey, guys! With the pain in my hands, the Uplula loader is a godsend that allows me to enjoy shooting. If I didn't have it, my range sessions would be much shorter. I'm sure many of the older shooters on the forum share my appreciation for the loader, and whether you're young or old, healthy or not, the speed does allow all of us more time to shoot.

And like the earlier poster, I'm glad I didn't know that the Uplula wouldn't work on the 8 round 9mm Shield mag, 'cause I just used it to fully load one to begin breaking in the spring!

i have a H&K loader from a double mag. put a few bolts / stops thru the handle to use w/ both the 6 rd. and 7 rd. mags. i did purchase the llula loader, it was worth the $30. range time is a quick load. it will be nice when S&W puts some xtra mags on the market!! saw a guy@ the range loading his mags. so fast he was sweating. :)but it doesn`t work w/ the 223 mags.::D. 40 years ago i was in the deep harwoods of pa. it got dark, storm come in, whiteout time. walked slow so not to sweat, wished i had my compass, only cabin in the mt. section i was at, a few hours later, when i heard a couple of guys taking a leak and laughing, i knew i wouldn`t have to sleep in the woods that night. when i rechecked my pack i found the compass under an extra shirt, so my thoughts were that i was never lost. for some reason i have a compass in the car, pack always. just like i go to the range i have a loader to use. don`t know why the hunting story came to mind. but i`ve hunted w/ people that wouldn`t use a compass.-- didn`t want to reroute the thread, but somebody might have been in my tracks at one time, maybe brought a smile to someones face.

Until I got my M&P9C, I'd only had .45 1911 style guns, and never thought about, nor needed, a speed loader. Then I got my 9C, and thought my thumb was going to abandon me, especially getting the last rounds in. That's when I found the Uplula speedloader, and now I feel like I'm going back to the stone ages if I don't use it on any of my CF guns. Much quicker and easier, generally just more fun.

I chuckled when I read somewhere (here maybe?) about someone keeping only a single round in the chamber of a SD gun, and no loaded mags, so while he's aiming for his first shot, he's using his left hand to load his magazine(s). That guy must have at least 10-12 fingers and 3 thumbs on that one hand to accomplish that!

Anyhow, I forgot my Uplula my last time shooting, and just felt lost.

I do see your point about loss of certain skills...I will admit that I have become so accustomed to using a calculator that I won't try to balance my checkbook without one, for example. I do think that is a different issue, and I really don't think that using an UpLula will make me forget how to load a magazine without one.

In the interests of harmony, though, I promise that if my GPS ever goes out, I will load my magazines by hand. ;)

I think that this is the crux of this. Using a speed loader doesn't make you forget how to load a magazine by hand... It just is easier and quicker. I think MP1SG has a good point about tech atrophying abilities that it enables; a good example is spell check and autocorrect.

I'd argue that one could sneer at people using modern cartridges because a 10 year old can load the other black powder rifle while I'm shooting this one. Obviously that'd be silly and was used only as an example.

I really liked the post about how it enables people for whom the magazine loading is the most physically taxing part of shooting to continue to practice and pursue their hobby.

I'd also say that if one wants their kid to reload, thir mags without a speed loader, more power to them... A beautiful part of this hobby is the freedom we have to pursue it in our own ways. I'd also suggest that the kid gets a uplula cuz he'll be able to load more mags faster :)

Cheers.

The UpLula's for all (most) mags is the best thing since sliced bread. I have a couple for all my mags from handguns to Modern Sporting Rifles.

+1. Love it. Ours works well on Shield mags. It is just a tad of an issue to keep the single stack mag centered, but no big deal.
