My DS came with 4 loaders...3 HKS and one safariland...never used the safariland comp before but I really like it...I have the HKS for my 442 and that little knob has accidentally opened on me a few times...and I've seen lots of deps fumble with it during a reload..but this style works great...:)

I like the safariland ones too. I use the Comp-II (the one in your picture) for K-frame. I think I have 14 of them.

With the HKS, you must hold the cylinder in place when you turn the knob.
If you don't, both the cylinder and speed loader turn together
and the bullets won't release. That's why I prefer the Safariland Comp I.
You just push and all the bullets drop into the cylinder.

I only have the HKS for my J & K frames. I now think I need to broaden my horizons and check out the Safarilands.

Been using CompII's for years. If they get dirt or other crude on the shaft, just dunk them in soapy water and swish them around. Then some silicon spray. For that matter you can use WD40, won't hurt. Make sure they rattle when you shake them when they are empty. The only way to break them is to step on them.

For pocket carry one would think that the Safariland would be the most secure...

However that has not been the case. With 44 Mag speed loaders I have NEVER had a HKS loader drop a round, never... And I carry a lot of stuff in my pockets with the speed loaders...

However, I have had several Safariland loaders drop a round or two when carried in a pocket...

I was suprised by these results, but they have been tested and confirmed over seveal years of concealed/off duty, revolver carry...

Glad I can help....I feel like Johnny Appleseed....

A title that you have rightly earned!

Thanks to this post and the responses it generated I now have some Comp I & II's and the Safariland Speedloader pouches for each size, which are far more compact than the Galco pouches for my HKS speedloaders.

A slick set-up and I have Johnny App, oh wait, Sip, to thank for it!!:)

I have used HKS in the past but now I carry a couple of the speed strips, I like that they lay flat in my pockets.
They are a little slower to use but for the improved comfort and concealability I think its a fair trade.

I like the Safariland Comp III....just index the bullet tips into the charge holes and palm the speedloader stem which is spring-loaded and 'shoots' the rounds into place with authority.
Then while still palming the speedloader stem, simply 'rock, it forward and outta' the way.
I use them in SSR division/IDPA, and I'm tellin' you they are super fast!!!

I have both Safariland and HKS. And as one of the posters said, the Safarilands have dropped a round or two in pocket at times on me.

Have used both in combat matches and I give the Safari's an edge in speed. But the HKS' (and I have some that are close to 30 years old) are reliable and quick.

It's a matter of practice.

Speed strips. I love them. 2 in my pocket always.

You HAVE to practice with the strips to get used to them.
Watch Mas Ayoobs video on You Tube on how to use them.

You will be surprised after a few session how fast they really are.

I have them allover the place, in the cars and the house. Vey handy and cheap too!

I've used both but I tend to go for the HKS over the Safariland because they're easier to load. I'm so use to HKS that I automatically hold both the speedloader and cylinder in place while I turn the little knob so it's not an issue to me. Safariland are a bit faster because you just line up the rounds in the cylinder and push and they almost pop into place but I still like HKS a bit better. Midway USA has em' on sale right now for $6.99 too, can't beat that deal with a stick.
