Speedstrip Pouch??

Noticed something a while ago and I'm not even sure if I have an issue. I have been using for the past couple of years a Stallion Leather Pouch to carry my speedstrips in. I usually carry the same rounds in there and have started to notice that the copper is turning a dark color. Do you guys think I have any issues here?

I was able to find a picture of the same pouch I use via Google. You can even see in the picture that some of the rounds are turning a dark color.

A common problem, just polish the rounds with a silicone cleaning cloth every once in a while to get rid of the discoloration.

I found an old canvas pager case that will hold two strips or one and a small, flat lockback knife (an old Gerber). Looks outdated but innocuous, never had it questioned.

That leather pouch looks nice, though!

No problem. What's happening is called verdigris, greening of the copper or brass. Very common on ammo carried in leather pouches for a long time. Best to rotate the ammo out every year or so. If your cases were brass instead of nickel plated, they would be turning green too, sometimes with a little fur or fuzz too.

Yeah, probably what I'll do with these ones. The silicone cloth worked OK, but the Tuf Cloth worked even better. The rounds look right out of the box now. I've been in the habit of removing them from from the pouch when I get home now, vs. leaving them in there.

Verdigris is green and waxy, and it "grows" on cuprous alloys as used in ammunition. What the OP describes is simple tarnishing or oxidation, which is no problem whatsoever and will occur with ammunition kept in its' original packaging!

A light spray of lacquer (Hairspray) can be applied to ammunition and will have no effect on function but will prevent, or at least retard, both oxidation and verdigris formation.

I've had holsters from them before. I was looking for something non-leather. I went with one of the Tuff Pouches.

Will do! I read reviews on Midway, I just think folks don't know how these work. They were expecting belt looks, but I'm pretty sure these wrap around the belt, like my Stallion Leather ones.

I have one of the pouches. They seem to be decent quality. And yes, they are designed to wrap around the belt.

Practice more often. Shoot the loads in your gun and rotate those spares into the gun when your done.

It arrived yesterday and have been carrying since. I haven't worn it on the belt yet - I bought it to just drop it in the front pocket. I don't see any issues with belt wear though. Fit and finish is great so far! Let's see how it holds up. Only time will tell! ha
