I know I am going to hate myself later for selling this but I have to cover another purchase. Here is a really nice, slightly modified, 25-5 in 45 "Long" Colt with a 4 inch barrel. The gun has had an action job which includes a trigger stop. The action is as good on single and double as anything I have ever held. The backstrap has been finely checkered and the thumb latch has been reprofiled. The work is of the highest order. It appears that someone went to a lot of trouble but then shot very little. The action is vault tight; timing spot on.
If you have been following the threads on oversized throat on the 45 Colt guns please note that S&W reduced the cylinder throat size when they removed the barrel pin and the serial numbers hit N900,000 in 1982. I do not have a pin gauge to prove it but the Serial on this gun is N904xxx and the barrel is unpinned. I have a sister to this gun which is also N904xxx with unpinned barrel that shipped in June, 1982. It has the smaller cylinder throats.
There is a very small amount of muzzle wear to the blue, a light turn line and a few other handling marks. It would appear that when the backstrap was checkered, it was touched up in cold blue as the gun has not been refinished. I have not shot this fellow so I cannot attest to its accuracy. My other 25-5 is excellent (better than I am).
This does not qualify as collector grade, but it is of the highest order shooter grade.
Offered at $815 shipped and insured from my FFL to yours. All forum rules apply. First "I'll take it... etc". Feel free to contact me through my email at: Carrvette (at) att (dot) net. I can do other photos if necessary. SWCA members, I'm in the directory under "Young". Thanks for looking.
