For sale: An exceptionally fine example of the .38 Double Action Perfected Model in nickel finish, with the scarce five-inch barrel.
Also included, 2013 factory letter that confirms this revolver was shipped January 22, 1920 to Shapleigh Hardware Company in St. Louis, "with a 5 inch barrel, nickel finish, and black hard rubber grips." No other paperwork. The ammo shown in one picture is not included.
Finish is 95% at least. Tight as a drum, all mechanics in order. Bore has a few rough spots but nothing terrible. All matching numbers (grip frame, clasp, barrel end, cylinder, and backside of ejector star).
I purchased this revolver in 2013 from ace gun photograph Terry J. Popkin (SWCA No. 1963), who took the photos shown here and others that I can send by email. Terry acquired this revolver several years earlier from David Carroll, and it was the best available at that time. The five-inch barrel is said by some to be the rarest barrel length for this model.
$1,200, shipped. I will respectfully consider cash offers. I would consider a trade towards a 1st Model Single Shot or a 4th Model Single Shot (Straight Line), or a Remington rolling block pistol in .22 LR (whether original .22 LR or converted thereto).
I would prefer to ship directly to a buyer with a C&R, but I will ship to a FFL 01 (dealer) who confirms to me in advance that he will accept deliveries from a non-dealer.
