I recently bought these grips for a model 63, however I needed bigger grips for my large hands. They were new old stock and the old lacquer finish left a lot to be desired. I stripped them, sanded the smooth areas with 320, 400 and then 600 grit, then applied seven coats of Formby's tung oil wiping varnish to these areas and two to the checkering. I used 0000 steel wool between each coat on the smooth part of the grips. They now look 100% new, fit great and would look and feel super on any J frame!
