What do the above stand for? Maybe I'm a dummy, but I can't figure it out.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but that just rubs me the wrong way.

Cajun says he's got a widget for sale. I write him and say, "I'll take it".

That means the widget is sold. Not "Sold pending funds, because Alpo is not to be trusted, and might just back out of the deal and not send me any money, so it isn't really sold yet", but "SOLD".

I said I'll take it, so it's sold.

Now, if for some reason, the deal falls through, and I can't take it, then Caj can relist it as "for sale again 'cause that worthless Alpo renegged". But, until I "don't pay", it's sold.

I find it insulting.

I'll be sure to remember that, Alpo if you ever buy anything from me! :D

You may THINK there's a difference, but I thought you'd like to know what it means to the staff. The terminology has a unique meaning on this forum and I'll be glad to try to clarify things. Thiokol is THE classifieds moderator here, but I've been asked to do what I can to help him. It's a very busy job. I try to assist the members and Thiokol as much as I can and and have a hard time passing up a learning moment that reduces our work load. This is one of those times!

"SPF", when added to the beginning of an ad title, means the same as "SOLD". When we see it, we lock the thread. If a buyer backs out for some reason, we investigate and re-open the ad if necessary. When you add "SOLD" or "SPF" to one of the descriptions of an item listed in your ad, it means the item is spoken for. Either way, we ask that you maintain your ads promptly. You'll need to use the "go advanced" edit function to change the title.

The classifieds are a service offered free to members, but dealers and frequent advertisers are expected to help offset the operational costs and we enforce the rules vigorously.
