I got the 1911 itch back in ‘04, and this SW1911 5” was my first 1911. Since then, I’ve picked up a number of others, but I’ve always had a special fondness for this one. But while I hate to sell it, over the last few years I always seem to take something else on those rare occasions I go shooting…so it’s time to have it stop gathering dust and let it go.
Bought new in 2004 (production/ship date indicates June, 2004), this one-owner gun has 1150 rounds through it, and has been maintained in immaculate condition. No wear, no scratches, and never been carried. I’ve never had a FTF or FTE, but replaced the recoil spring at 1000 rounds just to be sure.
At the time of purchase, this was the best SW1911 trigger available in my area…I should know, I visited more than a half-dozen gunstores to handle and compare SW1911 triggers, and this one was by far the best, and it’s only gotten better with time. My Baer Concept V has a trigger of 3.5, and, frankly, while perhaps a pound heavier than the Baer, its approximate 4.5 pound trigger is just about as crisp and clean as the Baer. Also like a Baer, this early (2004 was the first year of production, I believe) SW1911 feels more "solid" and tight than many of the more recent SW1911 production models I've had an opportunity to handle. I recall reading in a few gun magazines around that time that the Performance Center tweaked and/or helped build these first-year SW1911s, but have no personal knowledge to attest to that.
I put on a set of beautiful S&W rosewood grips with inlaid medallions that nicely complement the emblem on the rollmark, but have also kept the black rubber S& W grips that came with the gun. Gun comes with original box, papers, two mags, etc.
$675 + $50 shipping to your FFL (Next Day UPS AirSaver, an actual $82 cost to me). No trades...trying to gather up cash for a new motorcycle purchase. Questions to clinton65(the-at-sign)comcast.net .
