I thought I'd offer this to forum members first before going to an auction site.
1911A1 Union Switch & Signal manufactured in 1943. The gun has been through Rock Island Arsenal and is properly marked RIA. Additionally, it bears the stamp of Frank Krank (FK), who was Assistant Forman of the Inspection Division at Rock Island Arsenal from September 17, 1941 until he retired on July 19, 1946.
Although arsenal marked, I do not believe that the gun was refinished, as it has the correct (sandblasted) polishing strokes on both the slide and frame (please see last three photos). It bears the following markings and small parts, which are consistent with US&S pistols according to Charles Clawson's Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1 (The "Big Book"):
-"P" proofmark matching on left side of receiver and centered in front of the rear sight on the slide (Consistent with a late series gun with serial numbers ranging from 1082000 through 1096404)
-RCD in a circle inspection stamp by Robert C. Downey on left side of receiver
-HS (High Standard) barrel
-Keyes grips with reinforcement circle around screws (Consistent with a late series gun)
-Barrel bushing with concentric rings around the barrel hole
-Mainspring housing with 32 points of checkering in the second row from the left
-Stamped, checkered trigger with blued finish
-Coarsely checkered hammer
-Checkered slide lock
-Magazine stamped with "R" on the toe for Ridson (original WWII maker of magazines)
The finish is somewhat worn and close inspection will reveal correct sandblasted texture of slide and receiver for late series US&S.
Offered at $3,050 including shipping to your FFL or C&R.
