I may be showing my ignorance here but Sold Pending Funds means what?

It's sold if I can get the money?

I have the money but am not sure if I want to send it to you?

I'm pretty sure I have/can get the money so hold it until I decide?

I've got some other deals working and have SPFd them all until I get around to making a decision?

Just curious.

It means that it is sold to a buyer, but the seller doesn't have his money yet. And since the seller doesn't have his money yet, if the buyer flakes out, or doesn't do the deal, the buyer forfeits..which allows the seller to relist it.
IF YOU CAN NOT DO THE DEAL, DO NOT SAY "I WILL TAKE IT"....if you need time to do the deal, it is proper to get the sellers permission, then keep the seller informed. If the seller agrees to wait a week for his or her money, then you are ok...but don't say "I will take it" if you don't have the $$ in your hand and are not prepared to proceed immediately

IMO, "SPF" is pretty simple -
-seller has an item for sale
-a potential buyer verbally committs to buying item
-seller holds item til he receives payment and then ships item immediately.

SPF is placed by the seller, not the buyer. It means that they buyer has formally committed to buy the gun, but that the seller has not yet received the funds and/or they have not yet cleared. On this forum, formal commitment means you post a clear "I'll take it" followed by a PM or email to the seller repeating the commitment and giving the seller your particulars, i.e., address, phone, etc.

Hope this helps.

+1, and many times you won't know who the buyer is because deals are done "under the radar".

SPF means that an agreement between the parties (Seller/Buyer) involving terms for a sale, has been accepted and consummated.

It also establishes that the actual transaction (possession of item/funds) between the parties is still pending.

I was being about a half a smart ass on this post. I know what it means.

I think I'll try it at the grocery.

I consider SPF to be an insult.

Let's say dkees lists a gun for sale, and I say, "I'll take it". He then puts up a post that says, "Well, Alpo said he wants it, but I don't trust him to actually buy it, so I'm not going to call it sold until his check clears". Nasty post, wouldn't you say? But that's what SPF means.

Now, if I said, "I'll take it", and he marked it "SOLD", then I back out of the deal he could re-list it, saying, "Thought it was sold, but that worthless scum Alpo backed out, so it's for sale again". He can insult me, now, since I did something worth insulting over. But SPF? That's saying he doesn't trust me live up to my word and pay him.

Well, Alpo, I understand what you're saying, but I don't think you should consider SPF an insult. It's just standard between folks who don't know one another well during a long distance transaction. I don't expect people to trust me who don't know me, especially if they have no way of knowing anything about me, etc.

Now if dkees is your best pal since the 6th grade, and he still uses SPF with you, maybe you should get mad! (Unless you've stiffed 'em in the past, Then SPF would be okay, I'm sure you would agree!:D)

I prefer S,AF. (Sold, Awaiting Funds).
Or P,AS. (Purchased, Awaiting Shipment).
Or WSWYP (Will Ship When You Pay).
Or S,AP (Sold, Awaiting pick up)
Or PPP (Purchase Pending Payment).
SPF just sounds dirty.

SPF is what we frame walls with and SYP is for the floor system and roof. Oh wait. Sorry I thought I was at work :D
