Spitting 586

Hello All: I have a LNIB 586, 4 inch, no dash. Great gun but it seems to spit a bit more than I'd like.
Gap looks pretty good so I'm thinking the cone is rough or off center, or the timing is off.
Who is the best at this kind of work?

Of course you could send it back to S&W. If you bought it new, you could ask them for a shipping label so you wont have to pay the freight. As an alternatie, any COMPETENT gunsmith in your area should be able to diagnose and correct the problem.

a 586 no dash would have been made long before the lifetime warranty went into affect (any gun made since 1989), so he would have to pay shipping both ways.

.357's are notorious for spitting more than most other calibers for some reason.
You may have a rough forcing cone, or maybe a burr on one side of it. Look at it under magnification if you can. It may be something very easy to remedy at home.

There are many very good gunsmiths that can handle any work you may end up needing. Cylinder and Slide, Mag Na Port, Bowen, etc., as well as S&W themselves. Shipping will be the same no matter who you send it off to, so maybe you can find someone that is really good in your area.

Probably, you can't go wrong with Cylinder & Slide.

I don't think that is a given. I think it will depend more on how you approach them. When I recently sent back 2 no dash L frames for the M stamp conversion they paid shipping both ways, and from the discussion they lead me to believe they were interested in correcting any issues I was experiencing.

Since you sent back 2 guns that were covered by a recall, I can understand them paying for shipping. There is no cutoff date for the recall on L frames that still don't have the M stamp.

S&W is pretty good most of the time about helping out customers, and they may make an exception for a gun that is already there, but believe me, they won't pay shipping on one outside the LW date.

I have a 29-4 that was made at the very end of 1988 according to S&W (they said Nov), but Roy Jinks told me it shipped in early '89, and since the ship date is what seems to count to everyone, you'd think that the factory would cover it. Nope. Made in '88 is made in '88 according to them, and is therefore outside the waaranty period.
