My New York compliant (fixed stock) Sport is rounding out nicely with a Nikon P223 scope mounted with Nikon rings on a 1 inch riser (XL head).

The one thing missing with this setup is a good cheek weld. I'm not crunched up sighting the scope, and ear muffs play great...but a solid cheek weld just ain't there.

I don't want to change the stock, I'd like to add a cheek pad of some type. Has anyone had any success (or dissapointments) adding an aftermarket cheek pad to thier M&P15 Sport? If so please chime in and share the details. Thanks.

I have noticed some of those snap on cheek pads are <$20. I don't have one and havn't tried one. What I have done is replace the stock. I was having the same issue with cheek weld and it is impossible to get a sandbag under the M4 stock. The cheek pads are not a big investment, so why not try one of 'em out and see? They may be the cat's behind.

Wow, you have me thinking that the short one would work real nice for me. But I have to kick it around. My setup is working real nice the way she is. Could be my big head LOL

Cut a piece of pipe insulation in half and tape it to your stock. This will also give you an idea of how high you want your cheek rest to be.

I have done that with some bolt actions and it works very well. I'm guessing that aesthetics are important to the OP though, and this idea, while practical, ain't exactly eye pleasing. I am interested in how they perform. Keep us posted jimsky.

Got my cheek pieces yesterday, the small one (0.75") is what I'm going with. Very well made and snaps into place firmly. I applied a bead of GOOP into the four slots the cheek piece snaps into, now it's a rock solid mount. Much better scope alingment and cheek weld. I stood sideways in front of a full lenght mirror peeking at my stance before and after...honestly I don't see how you can use a scope & riser and not use this cheek piece. Happy camper!

Did you put the pad on the rear of the stock to make it longer or for recoil ? Just curious as I would like my stock to be a bit longer.

The butt pad was to make the stock a tad bit longer and to make it a little bit more comfortable fit in the shoulder, it is not needed for recoil reduction.
