Springfield XDs45 SOME NOTES

Finally got an XDs45. It's small enough for a pocket,
and recoil is not punishing. Had time for a magazine of
230gr Ball ammo at the range before loss of light.
I also found that it will pocket carry with a Nemesis, just a tad
tight, stretching holster with a CS45. Came with a third magazine,
which was Springfields thanks for putting up with the recall.
These pics are my usual lousy effort, but do show the
XDs with a 642 and a CS45.

I'm anxious to see posts of home made or commercial holsters (pictures) for pocket carry that fits the gun well and has padding to prevent printing. Would think a holster is needed to keep the gun free of lint and other stuff that accumulates in pockets.

The Nemesis I got has an open toe. I suppose you
could find a way to close it, but you'd probably have to re-close
the toe on a regular basis.
This holster I've got says it'll fit about eleven other
pistols. It's the Model N38BJMKZO. I'll bet that there's somebody
making a leather pocket holster that will fit an XDs. I just
used a S&W CS45 to loosen up the fit of the Nemesis. YMMV

The XDs in 9mm is still on my want list. I have to sell a gun first (not my Smith though). I have heard nothing but good about the gun; from people who own both the 45 and 9 Xds to hickok45. I asked him which gun (gun x, y, & z) he would recommend and he said the XDs (all three guns were 9mm). Hickok did say that he loves his baby Glock for CC however, I wanted a gun with an external safety. I guess I am paranoid. lol

I think the XDs .45 is the coolest new gun to come down the pike in a long time. I really like it. The trigger on the "uprgraded" gun is better than pre-recall. It has fed everything I have run through it, including light 200 gr. lead SWCs that choke in my Glock. Accuracy is excellent for such a small gun. (I have to hold dead-on instead of 6 o'clock or else my shots go a little low.) I just wish that someone made night sights specifically for this gun.

While I can carry it in a pocket using a DeSantis SuperFly, it is not what I consider an ideal pocket gun because it is hard to get a firing grip in a jeans pocket and it is not as snag free as a Centennial model J frame. But, I do sometimes carry in the pocket for short trips

I mostly carry mine in a Crossbreed Mini-Tuck and carry a couple of spare 7 rounders (with the plastic grip extensions removed) in a Sparks IPD. It also works as a backup in a DeSantis Apache ankle holster.

It is the gun that I wish had been available when I tried my S&W 325 NG experiment, and it eliminates any desire now to own a big bore snubbie.

For people who may not know about the recall and "upgrade," they should look for the roll pin in the grip safety to assure that the upgrade was performed on a gun.

STILL LEARNING MY WAY AROUND

Forum members have noted that the XDs is too big
for pocket carry, plus, retrieving it from the pocket would be iffy.
Today seemed as good a time for a test run as any.
Put on the old guy jeans, stuff Nemesis and gun in pocket,
and go do an errand. Keep in mind that my posture during "walking"
isn't real pretty.
I didn't feel the extra weight, and the gun seemed pretty
stable. Draw is actually a little easier than with a 642. Seems
like the flatter shape is a help, specially with being bent
over all the time.
Now all I need to do is practice, practice, etc.

I'm still waiting for my XDS's in 9 and 45 to come back from the factory

I could carry either one fine in a Sticky holster in my front pocket

The recoil can be a little stout in the 45 but not wicked. It is pretty accurate for a small gun

Something I seemed to have forgotten about, is
what effect the recoil will have on a bent wrist, for
scared-to-death shooting. This could be interesting.
I didn't see anybody doing that in the video clips.

For what the XDS45 (5+1) is, its a pretty decent gun. I find the recoil from this gun to be very manageable and a lot of that is due to the 26oz loaded weight. For me it's a bit much for pocket carry. Have not yet taken mine back out to re-verify it's operation since the recall was done and have gotten back, but I do note a noticeable (to me) heavier trigger.

At this point I am not in a big hurry to put it back in to service. I have gotten attached to the G30S (31oz loaded 10+1) and MP9c (30oz loaded 12+1), that took it's place while it was gone for those couple of months and I do like having the additional round count. With a good belt and IWB holster these double stacks are not as difficult to carry as you might think.

BENT WRIST NOTES

Although I thought recoil would not be a problem, I
had not tried shooting from the hip. Started out with a
CS45, just as a precaution, as it's heavier. That was okay,
so switched to XDs. Same as the CS45, except for the
twist to the left from the XDs. Not only was it okay for
recoil, it was good with either hand.
Ran ball ammo and 230gr JHP with no faults with either gun.
Both of these pistols seem to be natural pointers.
Both hit close to POA at 25 yards. I used that distance
because walking out to place my own targets is a
real pain.

I'm still surprised at how manageable the recoil is with the XDs. I may not keep mine for the long haul as it is more of a luxury firearm, but it is definitely a winner.

Finally got mine out last weekend and put some holes on paper for the first time since getting it back from the recall. It ran well with no malfunctions and the shots stayed on the paper.

I do find the trigger is a pound or two heavier than it was pre-recall. It's not bad enough to be unusable, but IMO it was better before it was sent in. I'll wait and see if a third party comes out with a some kind of modification to bring it back down again in the five to six pound level like it was before.

The recoil was as I remembered it and quite easy to get back on target for the subsequent shots. Do feel it's fiber optic front sight helps me to pick up that front sight slightly quicker, too. I might have to ask Santa for one of those to put on the m&p compact.

I have the XDS .45ACP. It is my first firearm. I do like everything about the weight, size and feel. Had only put about 100rds through it prior to the recall. Being a first time gunowner and shooter I found the recoil to be quite manageable.

The only negative thing I can say from my experience is that I kept getting my finger pinched when shooting. I'm sure it is probably more my technique than the gun's design but for me it's not the firearm to take to the range and shoot a few hundred rounds through it.

I'm sure it is a good weapon for ccw but thanks to you heartless monsters I have become hooked on revolvers.

the S&W CS45 uses the same Nemesis pocket holster,
even though it seems too heavy for long term carry.
If you insist on all metal-framed pistols, now you
have a reason to add an S&W pistol to your stable.

Since my summer is now history, I took the XDs and
the CS45 to the range for some more practice. Was wearing
gloves anyway, so I shot some mags with them on.
Funny thing was, they really changed my POI. XDs was
low and left with strong hand, and up and right with weak
hand, ??
CS45 was right on the money, as usual; it didn't care
about the gloves.
Maybe 25 yards is too far out there. Anyway, I had a good
enough reason to go to the range.

Coat pocket prize

Howdy,
Mine has been back for a month or better. It was gone so long I can't say I notice the trigger being any better or worse than it was.
Before it went back it had about 500 rounds of factory equivalent 230 grain put through it and a little factory HP ammo.
It has been trouble free. It is easy for me to shoot and it can be fired into the black of a 25 yard bullseye target at 25 yards with two hands standing. My sights were right on out of the box.
It shoots way better than I expected it to. It works all the time. I find it easy to shoot fast and in good weather shoot it in pocket auto class in the local bowling pin matches. (This year it was gone for the most part)
Where it really shines is coat pocket carry now that the winter clothes have come out.
I really like it.

My XDs 45 is my primary carry gun. I love the feel, the recoil is very manageable and more back than upwards for quick follow up shots. The felt recoil belies the guns small size and large caliber. The trigger is as you'd expect and smooth through the entire pull. Break is crisp and reset is very quick. It is very accurate at 25 feet out to 25 yards. The construction is solid and tight. Mine has operated great.

The grip safety is an effective added measure of safety that requires no additional motion to operate.

IMHO, this is the best carry .45 out there. I am positively sold on the format, reliability, comfort and functionality of the XDs and WILL absolutely buy the XDs 9.

I found the XDS45 was not bad in the recoil department, that is likely due to the weight (26oz loaded) and the recoil spring.

Am waiting to see reviews/reports of the spring package that PRP recently announced for the XDS. I hope that modification might have an affect on the heavier post-recall trigger pull. We'll see.

It's been pretty cold here lately, like every where else.
Finally got a nice day, and headed for the range. Was shooting
offhand at about 30 to 35 yards. Just a couple inches to the
right at that distance. Only problem was that I was standing
on ice-covered snow. that made balance real "iffy".
Still, it was fun, and a 45 is lots of fun.

Can't wait to get mine back, I miss the little thing. Without the extension, i pocket carried it some, with the extension, it lived in appendix carry. The thing is just ideal for me. Really want it back! Although I sure have no qualms about my beloved and ancient Glock 17 that has been filling in for it.

I got my xds 9mm back today and it feels so good to have it again. If you have one (actually he has some other guns he makes for too) I highly suggest www.firearmholster.com he does tremendous work and it is by far one of the most comfortable holsters I have. The holster is a hybrid leather kydex and the leather is backed with some sort of wool.

I prefer a two-piece holster to the folded style of the Nemesis. They lie flatter and conceal better, IMO. Galco makes an excellent generic pocket holster. It's horsehide, with the flesh side out, with rounded corners that don't print. There are various sizes to fit nearly any pocket-sized pistol or revolver. The smooth inside and rough outside lets you draw without any chance of the holster coming out with it.

The downside is that the Galco is on the large side and soft (flexible). If you need something smaller or more positive, have one custom made (e.g., Ryan Grizzle, I have two). The price is about the same ($50'ish).
