There's a M-28 Highway Patrolman I'm contemplating, s/n S329xxx, but there's a tiny bit of space between the crane and the frame, just enough to be visible. It's in good shape, 90-95%, 4" bbl, and some u/i aftermarket grips. He's asking $500.

How much does it matter and what can be done?

A good revolversmith can realign it but trust me, you don't want to watch. I would keep looking just because it may have other problems caused by the same person who sprung the crane.

It may not be sprung at all. I have had more than one new Smith with a small gap, right from the factory. Have a GOOD gunsmith check it with a range rod to see if the chambers are lining up properly. That is, if you can get a GOOD gunsmith to go look at it with you.
