I am considering purchasing a SR45, but most of my local dealers say it is not that good. Anyone have any history with this firearm. I want to use it as a CCW.

Just curious....What say the folks on the Ruger forum? Don't know about the SR45 but I have a P95 that I like a lot. Have always felt they make some darn good guns.

A few months ago I was strongly considering one for my 1st .45, as the price was very attractive to me. That was until I was at a couple LGS's and, at each one I asked to see an SR45. The trigger on both was, in my opinion, horrible. So it got crossed off my list. That is the extent of my experience was the SR45, and I ended up getting a Rock Island Tactical.

I agree with jfd about the P95...I had one about 13 years ago that I sold and am still to this day regretting getting rid of it. Lord that was a great shooting gun and sooooo easy to clean.

The SR series pistols are supposedly pretty good. Maybe not Glock, Sig [P320], or HK [VP9] good, but still great guns for their price tags. I had a Ruger SR9C and I was very pleased with it. I found it to be very accurate and reliable. It was also easy to conceal and fit my hands perfectly. I only sold it to fund my Sig P320.

That being said, I think the SR45 is kind of big for concealed carry. It's more of a home defense, target, and open carry gun in my opinion. I also find the magazine capacity kind of disappointing for its large size.

If you want a good .45acp for concealed carry then check out the Glock 30S or Glock 30SF pistols. If you don't mind the trigger the S&W M&P 45 compacts are excellent choices too. If you want a .45acp for strictly concealed carry, then the Glock 36 and XDS 45 are good options too. There's also always 1911 commanders if you like single action steel guns too.

SR45 is not shaped well for CC. Get a proper 1911 if .45 is the objective.

I owned one for enough time to send it back to the factory several times. The last time I got it back with an "all fixed" report, I had already talked to the CS folks, knew it would never be made to work as it should for my needs, and sent it to consignment sale.

Mags were bad, they kept replacing them, issues with the mag dropping out (not my grip, you could hold it by the slide, shake, and the mag would fall), extractors broke, springs broke, sights fell off, just a long list of issues. They even offered to replace it, but have a friend with the same gun, he had similar issues, so I asked to trade for a revolver, but different part of the company (I have had Ruger revolvers for 50 years).

Did I say DON'T DO IT??
