After a trip to the range today with the 15-22, in terrible hot weather, I got my 3-12x44 scope zeroed. One of the issues I ran into, after zeroing, was when I was using the el-cheapo RIS bipod/grip. It's plastic and it just isn't as stable as I'd like as a bipod to be. I'm a old school wood stock, iron sight guy, so all these "toys" on the AR platform are new to me.

Can anyone recommend a sturdy, adjustable height bipod, that doesn't weigh a ton? I don't like to constantly set up sandbags, or other rests, and would like the convenience of a sturdy and stable lightweight bipod. Or, am I asking for too much from a lightweight bipod? Thanks!

BTW, the JP Ent. 3.5 trigger springs have transformed this gun into a pure pleasure to shoot! No FTFs in over 200 rds first time out.

Well, I've gotta give a plug for the CAA (Command Arms Accessories) Bipod.

I have one on my 15-22 and another on my Beretta CX4. It's super sturdy, well made, and built to last. It's pricey, at $123 compared to the Harris, but the Springs and works are all internal. It has a removeable 3" Picatinny Rail underneath, in case you want to add a Light or Fore Grip to the Rail.

The Legs are Rubberized, if you prefer to hold the Legs when you shoot, as opposed to having a Fore Grip. Also, the Legs are Removeable and Adjust to different Heights. The Legs will also Fold Forward or Backwards, to make it easier to store in your Gun Case. I have the Legs on my 15-22 facing Forwards, and the Legs on my Beretta facing Backwards.

Beretta USA sells them, but they're made by CAA, with a Beretta Logo on them.

Here is what I use...Have no problems at all, but i do use the 10 rnd. mags.. If you use the 25 rnd, you may want something a tad taller

BIPOD-203 - Leapers UTG Low Profile Bipod Steel Feet Adjustable Height Rail or Swivel Mount

Yes, it's too short for the 25rd mags.

The problem I have is that most bipods are too tall for me shooting from a bench, even at their shortest settings, and the ones that are shorter (6-7" or so) are too short for the 25 rd mags.

What I have now measures 8 3/4" from the rail to the ground. That's too tall. It takes about 7 1/2" to clear the 25 rd magazine. So, I have very little to play with in selection. I guess the real solution is to raise my sitting position higher. I already have the stool at its highest position. Sandbags on the stool maybe? :) How in heck do you use a 25 rd mag, on a 7 1/2 +" bipod, and get horizontal to the target, unless you are real tall in the upper body? Must be even harder if you're prone.

I picked up a couple 10 round shorty mags. It cured the problem for bench shooting and actually makes it nicer for hunting as well. I can go prone quickly or don't have to be as particular about a rest.

Yes, I thought about getting more shorty 10 rounders. That would go a long way to solve the problem. Trouble is, I just bout 3 more 25 rounders (never used) :( Maybe I'll sell 'em off at a small loss.

That said, I'd like to resolve the issue using 25 rounders, but it appears that there is no solution other than drastically raising my sitting height in that scenario.

OK, being the cheapskate that I am, I was over at the Cheaper Than Dirt store today, and picked up a $21.97 UTG bipod (See pic). I just couldn't see spending over $100 for a Harris w/mount right now. It's shorter than what I had when at it's highest setting and will accommodate the 25 rd mags. At lower settings it will easily accommodate the 10 rd mags too. While I was there I picked up an aluminum folding short grip ($29.97).

We'll she how she goes at the range, but if I still have issues with height, which I doubt, I can get my money back - no problem.

UPDATE: Went to the range this AM and put 100 or so rds through. Bipod worked well in ALL positions. Problem solved. Very pleased for a cheap bipod.

Nice G26ster.

I was thinking of a UTG. It looks like your bipod is the best height to accomodate both the 10 and 25 round mags.

UTG has these 23 I was thinking of
6.1"-6.7" at center
6.1-7.9" at center (I think the one you have)
8.1"-12.7" at center

Yes, it's the 6.1-7.9" at center (BIPOD-204) from Cheaper Than Dirt

Can't you just mount the bipod to a riser and mount that to the rail to give you that lil more that you need?

Nothing wrong with being a cheapskate! I wouldn't spend $100 either. Is this bipod tall enough so you can shoot from the prone position?
