Stag Case Knife

For all you knife experts, I had put this knife on my Watch List on eBay. I thought it looked really nice, especially the show side of the stag. Forgot about it until the auction was over, and was shocked to see the selling price. Don't get me wrong, it is really nice, I just didn't think it was THAT nice!

What made this particular knife so valuable? BTW, I need to look, but I think I have one just like it in my collection, fingers crossed.

Well, it is pretty, but I do not see that kind of money, but collecting case knives is a whole world in itself. I have a jaguar I bought around 67 or 68. I keep forgetting to research a value.

They are not bashful pricing collectible Case knives. I carry a Case (Muskrat} made in 1973. I kind of knew it was collectible, but didn't know value. I gave $35.00 for it in the 70s. I found the same knife in Tulsa this spring and had to have it. $150.00 that's a crazy price. It now lives in the safe with some Randalls that I will probably never use either.

I really like Case knives, and have collected quite a few over the years. IMO, that price is stupid for that knife.

I sold off my Case knife collection 15 years ago, had a handful of that model knife. I think I maybe got $60.00 each back then. I had a lot of great knives from the 1960's up to the 1980's Case knife collecting is definitely challenging there were always a lot of fakes or put together knives. I still look at knives at flea markets and gun shows, but only buy what I carry now. The Case knives from the 40's really sell for crazy money.

A friend gave me this Case 6246R knife several years ago.

The tip of the blade was broken and there were no scales on either side of the knife.

The only reason for the gift was that my friend wanted me to show him what I could do with the knife.

I reshaped the point and made scales out of an old NASA instrument panel. I tried to give back the knife but I was told "keep it."

These knives in original condition sell for $150 to $300+.

Bother died and left me a collection

My brother died after 20 years fighting Parkinson's and left me a boat load of knives. He started collecting store bought/commercial knives back in the late 70's, into the 80's and 90's before getting into the full customs. After receiving the collection we started researching all there various brands and what they were worth for resale. I recently shipped off over 100 knives to a guy to sell for me.
I haven't even gotten into the customs yet. He and his wife consigned a bunch of the customs before he died but I still got a load of them.

I collected pocketknives on and off for about 40 years but only managed to get a handful of real stag. Like mentioned earlier in this Thread there is a lot of fakery to wade through when it comes to nice pieces. Here are some Case branded.

Ive been a watcher/collector of Case knives for many years. Older stag always brings a premium, but that’s the first Eisenhower I’ve seen with a bail, and the rarer models bring in the bidders. It’s easy to say it’s not worth the money if Case knives aren’t your cup of tea, but people who are not S&W fans would think it’s silly to pay more than $900 for a Registered Magnum since that’s the price of the current-production equivalent model.

I agree, but so far I haven't heard that this knife was something extra special. My thinking was being a Case in a "gentleman's" pattern that many guys like, and in Sambar Stag is really nice. If the knife had closer matching scales and THE original box, I woulda thought $250-300 would have been a high close. Shows what I know. In my opening post, I said that I thought I might have one like this knife. Unfortunately, I don't. I have the same knife without the bail, and 2 Sambar Stag knives that are about the same length with more squared bolsters with a bail.
