I've seen a lot of threads on the larger caliber stainless revolvers. There have been a few threads on the .22 cal autos, but no threads that I can recall on stainless 22. cal revolvers. What are my model options and any specific dash numbers that might be more desirable? My intended use will be farm carry, small game hunting and plinking.

In .22 LR, the models 63 (J frame) with 2, 3 (currently produced), 4 and 5" barrels, and 617 (K frame) with 4, 6 and 8 3/8" barrels. For your stated use a 4" model 63 would seem ideal. Earlier ones had pinned barrels but whatever the construction details they all seem to work well. Enjoy the search!

Here are two Model 617-4s in both 4" and 6", 10 shot, prelock:

I was shooting my 617 today. I have the 4", 10 shot with the lock. I was regularly busting clay birds on the bank at 30-40 yards. Pretty satisfying for plinking.

I took my 63 no dash w/added target grips out today to blow a bunch of rounds through it. Fun little gun that doesn't kill me in ammo bills.

While we're on the subject........

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement hammer for a Model 63 no dash, other than the factory?

Somehow part of the hammer spur came up missing, right after my son took it to the range, although by the time I noticed it, I didn't have the heart to bring it up.

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated! :)

I have a Model 617 no dash also and I can't say enough good things about it.

.22's are the bees knees.
My M63 & MKII get shot way more than any of my other handguns. Wifey has pretty much liberated the MKII but, I'm good with that. Leaves me the M63.

Here you go, from Numrich:

Model 63s are nice and easy to carry but it is harder to shoot accurately for me than a larger frame.

Current SS S&W rimfire revolvers are pretty decent:

The top 5" 63 was dropped a year or so back, while the bottom 3" 63 finally went into production last November. Both 63's sport '60 Pro' replacement grips and are 8-shooters. All three sport HiViz front sights - the 3" 63 came so-equipped. With some work, the 4" 10-shooter 617 has by far the best trigger, with the stock 3" 63 next in line. It's new nature has it in the range bag the most.

Thanks for all the suggestions and especially sharing your pics. Now all I gotta do is find a 63 or 617, either a 3" or 4" bbl. Any of you guys wanna part with one of your babies?

I think the folks have previously covered the choices. I personally like the 4" M617 and the 3" or 5" M63's. I suspect I will eventually buy a 3" M63. But the 5" would be a very good choice for toting around the farm or woods in a holster. The larger framed 617 will probably have a better trigger. There really are no bad choices if you stay with S&W.
