Stainless .357 J-frames

Reading AkRay's M60 thread got me thinking about stainless steel, .357 J-frames. I only have one, a 640-1 and I'm thinking of carrying it instead of my 638.

Just a bit more weight may improve accuracy for me, plus I'll have the option of hotter loads. I've fired a few .357s from my 640 and recoil it was lighter than I thought it would be.

How many of you have 600-series .357 J-frames; 60, 640, and the one I really want, the 649? Show 'em if ya got 'em

I'm a little fond of J frames myself. There's only one .357 here, the 640-1 at lower left. The rest, clockwise from the 640, are a 60-7, a 63-4, a 60-4, a 642-1, and a 649.

Think you'll like the 3" sight length. I swear they all think they have 6" barrels and I own 7 of em. Not good for pocket carry but this 60-10 rides real nice in a Lobo IWB holster for a light summer weapon.

so here is my 60-10:
Started out a bedside...transformed into hip carried trail gun.
may be the only one in the world but I prefer the beadblast on it as opposed to shinier stainless steel finish.

Silly question time:
Why didnt they just make it easier and call them either M60 stainless or blued or a 36 in stainless or blued?
And why do vacumn cleaners have headlights on them?

Bumping this old thread with a couple photos of a 640-1 that I won off GB recently and am waiting on now.

This will be my second 640-1, as I sold my first one...and regretted it! Looks like this one is an earlier example, with the forged parts.

Anyone else a fan of the stainless .357 Magnum J-frames?

I first qualified for CCW with a 640-1 in 1996 (16 hrs classroom and timed live fire strings) when I had to close up the shop at night. The 640-1, a Surefire 6Z, and a Microtech LUDT knife went everywhere with me for years. The LUDT is gone, replaced by a Strider SnG, but the 640-1 and the old 6Z (now with Malkoff upgrades) remain.

The 640-1 is an outstanding firearm. The early units had forged triggers and "shovel" shaped thumb latches, Bxx and some Cxx serial prefixes, IIRC. My Cxx prefix came with Uncle Mike's full-finger "banana" grips, which I replaced with Uncle Mike's boot grips and, later, a set of Craig Spegel smooth boot stocks. It rides in an old IHL pocket holster purchased at Dillon Precision, which was about a mile from my job at the time, and where I spent a lot of money during lunch hours!

Sometimes I carry an N-frame, sometimes a K, sometimes a 1911, and sometimes an HK, but none of these fit comfortably in my pocket. That's the realm of the 640-1.

My m60 pro is fast becoming my go to light belt gun.
with Pachmayr decelerator grips 357mags are most shootable
and the 3 in barrel with good sights make hitting easy.
best of all, the 5 shot cylinder is small enough to be almost frame size.

I bought a 60-9 "no lock" a while back that was in excellent shape. It is my first of the J-magnums. I decided that I wanted the hammer bobbed and a better front sight, so I sent it to Robar to also get it NP3'd. I'm anxious getting it back.
