Stainless...586 ????

I have a friend who has a, well he says a 586. It is what I believe a 6" 686 that was stamped 586 on the crane. I know it is not nickle it is stainless. From what I have read over the years is that there have been some mismarked 686's out there, so that is the question of the day, so i can put this to rest. Was there some 686's out there that where stamped 586 by mistake?

It's either mismarked or it's been refinsished with brushed nickel or hard chrome, which actually looks like stainless steel.

At any rate, it does not enhance the value either way

If the gun is actually stainless, then it's a mismarked 686...

if it is some kind of nickel finish and was done at the factory it should have an "N" stamped on the frame under the grips
