It doesn't seem that long ago that when admiring rifles, it was always blue with wood. Stainless with black stocks almost made me stick my finger in my throat.

BUT - What happened?

Last rifle was stainless black stocked ultra superior mega magnum and the only pistols/revolvers that seem to follow me home anymore are stainless with black grips. 629, 639, 640 & 686.

Is anyone else noticing this subtle change in acceptance?

I accept the change pretty much as a necessity in this day and age, and also as it makes keeping the guns cleaner somewhat easier. However, blue steel and walnut is still my preference for a "real" handgun, particularly a wheelgun.
I just had out my Winchester Model 70 Mannlicher stocked 30-06, with wood that seems unobtainable these days, just stroked it for a while, oiled and put back. I can remember when a nickled revolver was a little out of the ordinary and worth mentioning. Oh well, stuffed my M60 into the holster and went out.

I've got a bunch of both but for me nothing else comes close to the beauty and aesthetics of a deep bright blue revolver with highly figured wood stocks.

I've gotta say though that most of my current hunting handguns are stainless with rubber grips, simply because of their utility and durability.

If I had to choose between the blued or stainless guns I would always choose the blue with wood. Long live the blue and the wood!!!:)

Some of my blue favorites....

All my rifles are all blue and wood except two EBRs.
My WORKING handguns are nearly all stainless but wear wood stocks. I can't stand the looks of goodyears, full lugged barrels, or unfluted cylinders. I guess my taste is slightly modified 'old school'.

Blued revolvers are works of art, but my regular carry revolvers, at least in warm weather, are stainless. I do have wood stocks on them though, because they don't catch on the covering garments.

It takes all kinds ;)

I used to only be about fixed sighted stainless revolvers, but my tastes have....matured, I'd say....and I've learned to really appreciate the deep blue. They're all great for their own reasons.

Handguns = stainless
Long guns = blued

It's how God wants it. ;-)

I went through a stage when I only really liked stainless revolvers and I loved blued rifles with wood stocks. Now I only have a few stainless revolvers and lots of blued and nickel finished revolvers.

Wood and blued steel -- That makes a real gun (I like nickle too) -- But then I'm old

I like Stainless and Wood. That's my grandfather's Model 60 in there, so I guess I always figured that's how a revolver was supposed to look.

another 50+ voter for blued with wood...

Blued and wood, especially the older S&W's with the higher polished blue, classy lookin' and my favorite but I am gettin' old too! QUESTION: do the new "classic" S&W's such as the 14 have the old school high polish, lustrous blue like some of the older blued guns? Maybe that should be a thread, I am very curious about that...

To each his own. They make a variety to fill many desires. The importent point is that they do their job. IMHO Bob
