You can spend $75 and get a factory letter, but I assure you it won’t come back as stainless steel.
Non SWHF & SWCA folks pay $100.00, not $75.00

The Model 629 is stainless, but the Model 29 is carbon steel, usually blued, but also available with a brightly polished nickel plated finish.
I have a 4" 29-2 in shiny nickel...I don't believe I've ever seen a nickel 29. I would guess a bit of a bump in value?
Yes, factory nickel finish does add value, somewhere in the 10-20% range. Look for the letter "N" stamped into the back of the cylinder and a large letter "N" stamped into the lower left side of the grip frame. This was a way S&W marked cylinders and frames for a nickel plate finish.I don't believe I've ever seen a nickel 29. I would guess a bit of a bump in value?
