Stand M&P 15 on fully extended butt stock

Any reason you wouldn't want to do it? I bought a rifle stand, and the only way to fit my 16" barrel ARs and my rifle with a 20" barrel with A2 butt stock is to extend the stocks on the M4 carbines.

Will that damage the stock at all over time?

You're good to go. Storing them that way is fine.

HOWEVER, be sure to collapse the stock all the way if you need to slam the rifle against the ground to open a stuck chamber ('mortaring').
