I am looking at a new Model 686 Plus in .357. At my local gun store the standard is $899.99 and the Performance Center Pro is $1168.99, a $269 difference. What would I be getting for the additional $ ?

Welcome to the Forum! I believe that there are two versions of the PC Model 686 Plus...the PC ($1189) and the PC Pro ($1179). The PC has the following features (per the S&W PC website):

Performance Center® Speed Release Thumbpiece
Vented, Ribbed Barrel
Interchangeable Front Sight - Orange Front Sight Included
Unfluted Cylinder
PC Tuned Action
Chromed Trigger with Trigger Stop
Chromed Custom Teardrop Hammer
Cylinder Cut For Moon Clips (Moon Clips Included)

The PC Pro does not list its performance specs, but I would assume they're the same as the PC except for the vented ribbed barrel. A standard Model 686 Plus lacks most of these PC features. Perhaps some Forum members with more knowledge about these revolvers will chime in.

I would add that if you look at the difference you pay for the PC features and what it would cost to have those features added, you'll the PC very cost effective. However, it also depends on whether you want those features. If not, save your money. Personally, I have always felt the money I spent for PC versions was money well spent.

I have only shot only one Pro Series (627 8-shot, 4") and thought it was pretty good for a lock gun.

But the real reason I'm responding to your post is to let you know that Palmetto State Armory has a sale on the 686 Pro ($800) and 686 standard six shot 4" ($650) and 6" ($700).
There are good prices and although I personally prefer pre-lock guns, I would be happy with any of the these.
