Hey guys, my local FFL got this Model 1917 in pretty good condition, he is asking $800 for it and I just wanted to get your opinions before pulling the trigger on this one.
Check the barrel for corrosion if you want to shoot it and have any accuracy. Lots of early 45acp ammo was corrosive. Otherwise it looks like a dandy to me.
I would not have left the shop without it. I passed on one locally in similar condition with a letter for more money about a year ago and am still regretting it...
Love the grooved hammer and the early stocks. If I found that tagged for $800 it would go home with me. I'd try to negotiate but it would leave with me. Hard to find them that nice.
I don’t know how you managed to find this for $840. I’ve been looking for one that is early with the concentric grooves and recessed concave stocks with condition and bids twice that amount leave me outbid.
$800. is about half price for that one. Waste no time to get back and bring it home. (I am assuming that the bore looks as good as what you have shown us.) I have seen much worse condition sell for more.
You know, when I see a very nice older piece like that at a very attractive price, sometimes I let the seller win. You could flip that for $1200 in a day or so.
I like the early models with the concentric ringed hammer and concave stocks, I'd be offering something I no longer have an interest in trade or try to get it for less, that is a good price if the bore is good, timing Ok, etc.
