Starting from scratch

Thank you all for the comments so far.

As far as my mindset goes thus far, I have mostly been buying .357/.38, as it is cheap to shoot. K frame seems to fit my hand best, and my 586 is the one that gets shot the most.

Here's my crew so far, as the 19 arrives at my FFL Monday.

The next few on my list are a model 17, and a model 27. I will probably look for a 5 screw 17, as they are still reasonably priced. Thinking about 3.5 for the 27, but boy do prices on them seem sky high. Maybe a 5" would be a good one to find.

Nice group of guns. I am avoiding the semi automatics as that would just be another rabbit hole for me. The S&W revolvers are keeping me entertained enough at this point. Never lose with a 17/K22 or 27. Love the looks of the 3.5" 27.

I don't collect semi-auto pistols, but I've acquired a few over the years. I checked my list and was surprised to find that I have a dozen different brands. Of them all, one of my favorite shooters is a Canik SFx Rival-S 9mm. Until recently, I had never heard of them. It's a really nice pistol for around $900. I got mine on sale for around $800. When you see the case and all of the accessories, you think "man, that company has their ***** together". I have two S&W semi-auto. A 1911 and M&P Shield 45 acp.

If you like K-Frames the best, (as do I), try a 5" Model 10 or older M&P. In my hands there is nothing else that comes close. The dynamic handling qualities are simply superb in my opinion.

In my limited experience handling these guns, the 4" full underlug 586/686 seem be to a sweet spot from a handling perspective, where as the 6" N frames seem to be a nice balance as well. I can certainly see a 5" non-full underlug K frame being nice to handle as well.

When I was 16, I wanted a 1917. Lots of gun guys told me they were worth about $50, but I never saw one at that price. Wound up with a .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk at age 18 as my first centerfire handgun.

Fast forward 4 years. I had a BP revolver, the Ruger and an Essex framed .45 auto. I started a law enforcement internship, carrying the semi-auto. Every time I walked past the chief deputy, wearing my .45, he gave me the evil eye. So, I bought my first S&W, a reblued 1917.

I had been reading Skeeter Skelton for several years. My next Smith was a M27-2, converted to .44 Special. This was followed by a .32-20, a Model 19, a Model 28, etc., etc., etc.

If Skeeter liked it, I tried to buy it. :D
