State facts...

I've always liked Arizona for the "no daylight savings time" thing. I hate DST but then again I do like bus fumes.... :p

Other facts:

Florida: The first state to have artificial refrigeration. It was invented by a doctor in Apalachicola prior to the Civil War!

Georgia: (Gun history) in Athens is the only example of a double barreled cannon cast for use in the Civil War by the Confederates. It was a total failure.

It failed because it was designed to fire two cannonballs linked with chain, but they could never get the two barrel to go off at exactly the same time- so all havoc was created when it was set off. They later tried using each barrel separately, but it was just too heavy to be practical.

They used it as a signal cannon to warn of approaching Federal troops, but some mischievous schoolboys set it off one Sunday morning. :D Utter pandemonium ensued.

To further the Alabama 9-1-1 connection, it was developed in Haleyville, Al. in Winston County which is approximately 50 miles south of my home here in Muscle Shoals. Winston County was also famous for seceding from the CONFEDERACY in the Civil War. A truly independent (and somewhat strange) bunch that I've ever had the occasion to come across.
