Anyone familiar with the process of applying for unemployment benefits in the State of Florida? This program might be referred to workmans compensation.

I'd like to know how long it takes from the time of application until the payments start. I'd also like to find out what the rate of payment is. Is this a 26 week program?

Thanks,

Can't help you with florida laws, but if this will help, I became unemployed after hurricane IKE. Texas unemployment kicked in about three weeks after filing. According to state laws, the max you could receive was 350 per week no matter what you made before. If you had worked for the company for numerous years as i had, you were qaulified for 26 weeks automaticly. now another employee that did not have as much time in has already maxed out his benefits, but the new laws gave him another 20 weeks of payments.

Thanks, Bayfisher. That does help quite a bit. Let's see what others have to say about Florida. I think this may be a federal program administered by the states. There may be a variation somewhere along the line.

Glad to help. My mother in law is a Florida resident who's been through the process. If you don't find what you need to know online, I can ask my wife to ask her about personal experience with the system etc.
