Steak and Shake

Perhaps I've just found bad ones, but in my experience S&S is "ok" in a pinch; I don't care for the skinny FF and the burgers are mediocre. I find In and Out and Carl's JR/Hardee's to be the pinnacle of the fast food hamburger joints.

I agree with the fries and probably the In and Out.

But I threw up in my mouth about Hardee’s…[emoji3061][emoji1785][emoji2961]. Cmon man. Hardee’s?! Next thing you are going to to rave about a White Castle.

Oh, the chili macs..I find myself doing that at home…[emoji7]

A trivia tidbit..the steak and shake in Springfield have horseshoe sandwiches on their menu.

The closest Steak and Shake to where I live lasted maybe a year. Sitting there empty. A friend went to drive through and ordered a milk shake. She got a cup of cold milk no ice cream nothing else. With service like that what else would they expect.

Never been to Miss Lill’s, but wasn’t impressed with whatabuger. Perhaps I need to give em a second try.

I have had plenty of cardboard Whataburgers, save your money.
It never ceases to amaze me that there will always be somebody that loves a tasteless sandwich and swear it is the best thing ever.

There truly is no accounting for taste...

They opened a S&S about a mile from where I worked in Colorado. High traffic, decent access. Lousy product and service. Lasted three months. Probably still vacant. When I want a takeout burger I prefer Wendys. Sit down burger I prefer Smashburger. And I don't forget the sweet potato fries.

I don’t think I would say Steak and Shake burgers are the best. I think they are one of the better ones out there…over McD or BK or others.

If you have to get fast food…steak and shake, Culver’s, five guys, in & out are probably where I would go for a burger. I’d rather go to a local yocal burger joint for a really good burger..

I do hate the promo like Wendy did a few months for a pretzel burger…the product look nothing like the pic. Shouldn’t that be called catfishing or bait and switch?!

Place in Norfolk,Va. called Doumar’s, true 50’s drive in. Best Barbecue in Norfolk and they made real lime aid , shakes to die for. Biggest deal was Mr. Doumar invented the ice cream cone, still has original machine he used on Coney Island before moving South.

That was my dad's favorite. My son went to law school in CU and dad would drive up and take him out to SnS or a local steak place. He always left him with some cash also.

Clearly what we have here is a bunch of Steak N Shake amateurs, as no one has mentioned the Chili Mac . . .

Most of the S&S in STL are closed. From what I’ve read yes it was cost cutting but only the top producing stores were saved.
They’ve done it to themselves with poor service and poor attitudes.
As others, I’ve been going there since a kid and it’s all gone downhill.

The place I really miss is the old Roy Rogers Roast Beef Sandwich restaurants. Back when I was a lad they used to butter up the buns real nice before they made the sandwiches. I used to tell them to run the bread through the butterer twice. Made for a REALLY moist roast beef sandwich. Yum.

They are coming back to the Cincy Metro area. I'm having visions of the Double R Bar Burger. (Roy was born in downtown Cincy)
