Steel Cased Ammo

The only time I ever shot steel cased ammo in a pistol, it was Winchester USA Forged 9MM 115 gr. It was on sale, cheap and I bought 500 rounds. I managed to shoot maybe 20. It choked every gun I tried it in. My 1911, my 365 and even my G17 refused to work. FTE's with one round that I had to use a tent stake to punch it out of the chamber. All 3 guns are flawless with brass cased ammo of many different varieties, but none of them would run this stuff. I ended up using it in a trade to sweeten a deal. He said he had a 9MM Blackhawk and they worked in it.

I pretty much limit the use of steel case ammo to the Combloc guns that it was meant for. Most common steel case .45 headstamp is "EC 43," 1943 production by the Evansville Ordnance Plant (Chrysler), Evansville, Indiana. Steel case ammo was restricted to CONUS and for training use. Combat ammo was brass. The Germans loaded lots of steel case 9mm during WW2. Most of the boxes were marked that it had “limited useability in Pistole 08” because of extraction problems.

Germans also restricted some steel case ammo to training use.
