I RECENTLY CAME INTO POSSESSION OF THIS STEEL HANDLED S.A.T.

IS this a pre-war tool? Post war? Perhaps a blued tool that lost its bluing?

I thought I knew more about these tools but suddenly found myself holding one that I am just not sure what it is.

Many thanks

I believe it is the one shown second from the left in the below photo. Click on the photo to enlarge it.

That makes sense. It does seem identical to the 4th one except for the blue.

When did the early post-war SATs phase out? I want to pair it with one of my guns in the collection.

I believe they were last used with the very early Model of 1950 N frame revolvers with adjustable sights. I’m not sure about usage with K frame revolvers. It would certainly be appropriate to pair with an N frame revolver with adjustable sights dating from 1946 to 1949 during the transitional period.

OK....just got off the phone with my friend who sent it to me. He told me that the handle was all rusty when he got it and he cleaned it up really well. So both the second, nickel, SAT as well as the 4th, with the blue handle, could have been this. I am leaning toward the nickel but not by much.
