I went to a gunshow yesterday. I sold a High Standard derringer that I had picked up awhile back so I had a little walking around money. I bought a Stevens 311A 12ga double barrel shotgun for $225 from a guy walking the aisles. It is in pretty decent shape and from the "E" in the circle near the hingepin appears to be made in 1953. It has a case hardened receiver and 30" barrels choked full/mod. I took it down and cleaned it when I got it home and am in the process of giving the stock a truoil finish. It looks like the stock had been replaced sometime in the past. All of these that I have seen have had either a hardwood or a tenite stock. This one is walnut and the buttplate reads "Bishop". It may have originally had a tenite sock that cracked and was replaced with a walnut one from Bishop. It has nice grain and I suspect that it will look real nice after being refinished. I am a happy guy. I like old doubles as well as gun projects.
