I was hanging around one of the gunshops a couple of weeks back, and I spotted a short barreled shotgun. It turns out it was a Stevens 67E 12 gauge with a factory 20 inch smooth barrel with factory rifle sights. I looked it over, other than needed a good cleaning inside and out, it looked pretty good and the stock (one of the weak points on Stevens shotguns) was excellent, no cracks, it takes 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells. I got it out the door for $175. It will make a good truck / house gun that I don't have to invest a lot of money in. If it ever warms up I will take it and some 00 buckshot to the range.

It's a good gun, and many of that design were used in Vietnam. One weakness that if you hit a VC with the butt hard enough, the buttstock would break off. I have one of them, bought it cheap over 25 years ago in bad condition. I re-blued it myself, and refinished the wood. It looks OK now, don't shoot it much, mainly for home defense, loaded with #4 Buck.

My brother-in-law has/had one of those "back in the day" when we were hunting together. He probably still has it, he's not a "gun guy" and it was the only gun he had. It seemed to do the job deer hunting with buckshot. It had, I guess, a 28" barrel. Not sure if it was modified or full choke.

I had the .410 version, but now it resides in my son's safe. Funny how things like that happen.........
