Still No Relief With Ammo

Thur 8/26 11:30am;

Just got back from Cabela's after checking out the gun and ammo departments.

No primers or dove ammo yet...........
but I did stare at a Beretta 9mm that had a $1,689 price tag on it for a long time but finally passed on it.

I did notice that heading West, that the smoke was getting very thick from the Calif. fires. Not a good time to be outside in this area.

I will just have to stay indoors for the next three days and see what happens.

Later.

I was at Walmart today and they actually had a few boxes of Federal 325 round .22 for $18.75. I bought 2.

The ubiquitous “they” have been screwing us around with “ shortages” for 50 years. Petroleum, plywood, beef, bacon, eggs, etc. Why would ammo be different. Like ‘ol Jack Nicholson said: “You can’t handle the truth!!” 100% correct. Joe

BassPro and Scheels had plenty of over-priced ammo today.

Not gonna $100 for 150 rounds of dirty Winchester white box 5.56.

No primers at either place.

Scheels had an end-cap full of Vihtavuori powders. Some of it was around the $50/lb, others where over $100/lb.

I was in Bass Pro Shops just to see what they had. There was a lot of 22 and 22 magnum. Prices were maybe a little high but Bass has always been high. They had 308 Winchester and a few other rifle rounds along with a lot of shotgun. I dont need any and didnt buy any but they and other stores local are getting mire and keeping it on the shelf longer than a few months ago.

Same deal at Bass Pro Shops in my area, 223, 5.56, 308, 12ga, and 9mm through the nose. And the employee putting more on the shelf. Not one primer(no surprise),can of powder, or 22lr though. Plenty of gawkers, but in an hours time, not one box left the shelf. There were dies, presses, and a few bullets in 22,30,38, and 9mm varieties. With hunting season around the corner, I’ll be interested to see if 30-06, 7-08, 30-30, 243, and 300 win mag pop up.

Guns were the same, I’d pass out to see an auto pistol in something other than 9mm or 45 auto locally right now.

Drive over to Scheels and see. As of a few days ago they had several VV powders and SRP's. Think I saw dove loads but not 100% sure.

Local shop just received 15 cases of various ammo. I saw 9mm, 45, 5.7x28, 223, 308, and 38. First shipment he had in six months.

From that and the primers/powder I picked up at the big box places - it's getting better.

Our stores have had more ammo than I've seen since last October. Haven't been out of 9mm in a couple of months now. Even more .380 than normal.

POWDER IS STARTING TO COME BACK IN MY AREA. I HAVE SEEN PRIMERS AT THE RETAIL LEVEL $65-$69 PER K LIMIT 1K. BUT ONLY AT SHEELS AND BROWNELLS. NO PRIMERS AT SMALL SHOPS AT ALL. BUT I'VE SEEN THE SAME SMALL SHOP OWNERS AT GUN SHOWS WITH PRIMERS ON THE THEIR TABLES FOR $150 PER K. I'LL REMEMBER THAT. THE DAYS OF PRIMERS FOR $25 PER K ARE OVER. I SAW A WHOLESALER'S PRICE SHEET. CHEAPEST PRIMERS WERE $34 PER K. JUST WHAT I'VE SEEN. JP

Lower case is everyone's friend.

I was somewhat surprised to find a dealer selling CCI standard velocity 22lr ammo for $50 a brick at this past weekend’s local gun show. I picked up a couple of bricks. Before I chanced upon that guys table, I spotted a table with a small stack of mini-mags in the 100 round plastic boxes. I first thought they were marked at $3.60 a box, but they were actually 36 bucks. I asked the guy if I was reading that price tag correctly. He started pitching me like a used car salesman. Said this ammo was out of production and shot better in his guns than the Eley “target brand”. I laughed at that one and told him that his mini-mags were simply plinking ammo. As I walked away, I’m thinking no one in this crowd was dumb enough to pay that price. I was also thinking that I hoped he busted a you no what humping his overpriced stuff back to his truck.

Local Point Blank range is selling 9MM for $ 24.99 per 50. Still high but getting better. GunBroker ammo prices are falling slightly over the last month.

I've got plenty of ammo to wait the high prices out. I don't look for pre pandemic prices any time soon, events will decide the future price of ammo, like so many other products.

LGS has more ammo than pre pandemic/panic times. I counted one stack of 130 1000rd cases of 9mm.

No shortage at all, but prices are still high, crazy high.
