Still "...the answer to a peace officer's dream."

Mod 39.
Had a very good friend who went to work in the Sheriffs Dept in 1947.

The Day Sheriff Al Skinner left he quit. Had a aunt who also worked as a Matron in the jail on Exchange St. Probably before your time. Do you remember when the officers wore Britches and those heavy leather around there legs? I think they called them "Puts"

Heard many stories about the old days with Sheriff Skinner.

I can't imagine life without a Combat Magnum. I must have a poor imagination.
I got my first 19 (19-5, 2.5") at a pawn shop in Portsmouth, VA. I sold it here a little while later, and felt completely miserable about it for weeks, and then I bought two CMs, a 4" 19-4, and a 2.5" 66-3. Both of these are still with me, and I have come to my senses, and found a few others to ease my panic at losing any of them. Bottom feeders come and go, and Colts sometimes come and go for me, but the Combat Magnums are officially welded to my collection.

I just got my first. Its a 19-3 that was my dads. He shot it for years target, and hunting. I got it after he passed away last month, and its a fine piece!!! I'll never part with it

I've owned over 100 guns in my entire adult life (I'm 41 now). Outside of the 1911, I have owned about 6/ea of the Model 19.

I carried one when I was on embassy duty in the 90s. When I get out of the Corps (for the 2nd time) in four years, I will try to go back into L.E. work. I would have no compunction about carrying a revolver.

I have a Model 27-2 and 28-2, both 4-inchers. They would be my primaries, where the Model 19-5 (pictured) would be my secondary with my 1960-vintage Colt 3-5-7 as my tertiary.

The K/L and Colt I-Frames are VERY fast if you have the Safariland COMP III to reload with. I routinely practice and can get one back into shooting within 2-3 seconds.

The N-Frames with the HKS or the new (old) SL Variants are not too far behind. It's all in the frequency of practice.

The 19 is IMHO has one the highest power-to-weight ratios of any handgun out there. Loaded with the 'Death Ray' (AKA: Federal 125gr Magnum JHP) it is STILL at the top of the heap for defensive handguns.

It is one of the best pointing (and concelable) guns out there. The Hume H721OT is the best OWB for these guns.

I love the Model 19/66. They are STILL very formidable pieces for the LEO or armed civilian. Remember: Beware of the old fat, donut-eating, coffee drinking cop with the wheelgun...he just may know how to use it.

Happy to be a card-carrying member of the Flat Earth Society!
