I recommend Tru-Oil, it has the it dry's faster, and (you should) ;put several coats on you can put more than one coat per day, althlugh I only do 1 per day. The final finish dry's shiny, but you can knock that down with a light buffing using Mothers Mag polish.

True Oil is a great product

Not sure what "stocks" OP is wanting to do? Stocks as in handgun grips or rifle stocks?

Refresh?? A light buff with extra fine steel wool or 3M pads and then coat with Tru Oil

I'd recommend 100% Tung Oil. You can apply as many coats as you want, it never peels, never toxic and you can always apply another coat right over all the old ones with no prep other than a 20 second light OOOO steel wooling. If the final coat is not steel wooled, it will be a satiny gloss finish. If it is buffed then it will be more of a mat finish - your choice. BTW 100% Tung oil is a natural product and will NEVER go bad. I use only Hopes 100% Tung Oil and buy it online. Most retail stored do not carry 100% Tung Oil and I would not use them.

BEWARE: there are many products that contain Tung Oil, but are not 100% pure!

Looking to refresh a set of pre model 10 stocks and a set of RP stocks. Seems like tung oil is for bare wood.

My finish of choice is Homer Formby's Tung Oil in low gloss or low gloss spray lacquer. Deft is another finish that's easy to use and is very durable, I use it to finish butcher block bench tops. It stands up to industrial usage of bench tops extremely well.

VM&P Naptha

For “refreshing” a stock finished with a film forming product, I like to use Truoil, or Linspeed, cut 50 % with VM&P naptha.
Easy to use, easy to refresh, and very forgiving.
👍👍
Best,
Gary

For older stocks, I use Min-wax Tung-Oil Finish. This is not pure Tung-Oil, in fact I'm not sure if it actually has tung-oil in it. It does take more coats than True-Oil but I like it better and it has a pleasant smell. You can use on bare wood or finished wood.

These stocks were merely refreshed with the Tung-Oil Finish. Apply a little, wait a short bit and than buff off.
