Bought a 12lb can/keg of 700-X...it was too good a deal to let it slide...'specially since my two buddies were with me suggesting all the great loads this powder is good for!!!

So, I see lots of loads in the manuals and other data sources. I'm convinced it was a great buy @ $10.00/lb...

So now I'm wondering if any of you reloaders would be willing to share some pet-loads that include this powder??? Calibers??? Just about any...I see it's pretty quick (like Bullseye & 231)

I reload:
.32 S&W, 32 H&R Mag, 380 Auto, .38 S&W, 38 Special, .357 Mag, .357 Max, 41 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 45 Colt, 45 ACP, 45 Auto Rim

Thanks.

Never used it but it would fit in with my self imposed limiting of only using Hodgdon/Winchester/IMR powders for the foreseeable future.

What kind of powder is it? Ball, flake, flattened ball, cylindrical?

I do have a friend that swears by it in the 45ACP, I'll have to ask him what his load is again.
That dude is like Methuselah, I mean he has been shooting since the Chinese invented gun powder!

I'll make a rendezvous with him tonight and find out.

p.s. Was there any more where that came from?

Skip,
Looks like 231...so flat ball I'd guess.

Yes, more...you have "needs"?? Lots of rifle powders too...I picked up 3 lbs of 4831 and a pound of 4895...

You want me to find out for you? It may be time for a road trip to KC?...pick up powder, wear out some guns at my range, visit, have a nice dinner, scenic trip back home??

Bob,
Well, it would be a little out of the way but in April I do have to make a trip to Joplin, MO to pick up our daughter from Bible School. Maybe I could make a small detour!

Do they have mail order or online ordering?

If you want to keep your source secret feel free to email me!

Happy shooting friend!

p.s. It is all because of you that I am using Wolf primers, I suppose I can be talked into 700x too!

Maybe I should have taken that job in Moundridge when I had the chance 20 years ago!

Skip,

700X and 800X are two of the double base powders IMR has. It's a flake in the same general burning range as Bullseye and Red Dot.

It does not have the real big flake that 800X has, so it's easier to meter than 800X (that meters like rocks).

BTW, Joplin is straight down the border from KC. If you take the interstate from KC back to St. Louis, Mexico (Graf's) isn't too far north of there. When I was there in 2004, the "store" was in a strip shopping center, but the actual warehouse was further out toward the edge of town.

Midway isn't very far from Graf's and not too far from the Missouri River.

I haven't kept up with the road numbers, it's still Route 66 to me, even though it has an interstate number now.

I have used 700-X in 45acp, 38sp and 45 Colt. I am sure I have some old load data somewhere. I know I have one or two cans of it left. My first exp was also a deal too good to pass up. A trap shooting couple divorced and I got most of an 8 pound keg for $10 or so. I was always happy with it, but standardized on 231 and Unique.

shot a lot of it back in the day. used betweem 2.7 and 3.0 with 148 hbwc loaded inside the case. in 45acp used 4.5 with 200swc.

Bob,
I haven't checked this data from my friend. He uses 4.8gr under a 230gr jacketed or plated bullet.
Not sure of any other details. Check to see what the data says.

Evening Bob - good visiting with you Sunday. After we left the powder I mosyed on over to the other side of the hall and there was a box with 11 packages of CCI magnum small pistol primers. It went home with me. Both the rifles I had sold. Good Show.

I don't need Bob's supply source, not when Chad lives in the Great White North too!

Wanna get rid of one of those big cans Chad?

Paul,
The last time the wife went to pick up Deborah I had her stop by Graf's. It added 3 hours to the trip! 3 hours @ 30mpg didn't offset the hazmat fee nor the shipping costs!

I decided I would just pay the extra and have items shipped from there instead!

Not to mention the "intense fellowship" we had over the added 3 hours to an already exhausting trip!

Thanks for the information though!

the only load I've used 700x was in 45ACP....it works great for the IMHO....

don't have the charge weight right here....loaded for mild/mod SASS Wild Bunch matches.

Thanks folks!!

Skip,
"Intense Fellowship"...I bet I've been there myself!

I finally go to visit with the powder seller today, he's doing an inventory and will call in a day or so...I'll let you know what's on the shelf.

Bob

This is my go to/carry load powder for 45 ACP+P with 185gr. Gold Dots. Very accurate......very consistent........very clean......you got a great deal on powder if you shoot a lot of 45 ACP!

tdan,
I do shoot a lot of 45 ACP/45 Auto Rim...revolvers and semi-autos!

Thanks.

Bob
