Stocking up on food and supplies?

Is anybody else stocking up on food and supplies?
I have been trying to get at least a 6 month supply of consumables. Except gasoline. Will gas in a can go bad like it will in carburetors?

The wife and I have taken some of our tax return money and buying some supplies to keep ahead of the times so to speak. I have been bottling up some water, and on my end I have been loading up alot of ammo and now taken to casting my own bullets as much as I can. Especially with me laid up and her out of work we are trying to keep stuff ahead in case things get worse, which I think that is likely. Right now we are planning a garden and i decided to raise some rabbits instead of chickens since I don't eat alot of eggs and not a big fan of chicken. I am also trying to figure out a way to fish one handed while the docs figure out to fix up my arm. Casting is ok, not sure how I am going to reel in though.

Will gas in a can go bad like it will in carburetors?

I have kept gasoline in a can for five months without it going bad. I am keeping non-ethanol gasoline, treated with fuel stabilizer, in a 55 gallon drum. I try to rotate it out every three or four months. I have pulled a pint in a clear jar the last two times it got low in the drum. The sample has not had moisture in it, nor has it had the smell associated with old gasoline. I really believe it would keep six or eight months in metal drums.

David, take a look at these. Yo-Yo Automatic Fishing Reels, Stringers & Trot Lines, Fishing Tools, Fishing : Cabelas.com Not as much fun as using a rod but it will put fish in the live well. I've used them for running catfish at night while using cawtawba worms or a stink bait. You also may consider an automatic fly reel. I've never used an auto fly reel so I can't say they have enough power to pull in a fish of any size, but it may be an option.

It works great for gas and diesel. Not sure about any generators you might have but it's a very important thing to add to your stock pile. Years back my uncle was thinking of running his home heating off diesel fuel too. Kind of like having multiple guns sharing the same round or at least bullet size.

Without any additives, I have used gas that was in vehicles over a year. My boat did not get used for an entire summer and had 30 gallons of fuel in the tank. Went the following summer and it fired right off. My power washer goes for maybe a year and fires off with the first crank.

I stock up on food and supplies. Be sure it's stuff you actually use and rotate your stock.

I live in a pretty nice area, directly accross the road from a major Midwest University. However because of the proximity of Chicago, and Gary, I consider myself on the edge of civilization. Any "civil unrest" and I'd have to leave PDQ. So I can't really stock up. I do like chicken so I bought a heck of a lot of it last month and it's in the freezer. Anything you stock up one now, will be worth 5-10 percent more next month anyway, so you can't lose.

No. The 1917 was sporterized by my grandfather Harold Baker at some point before he won the 1000 yd match with it at Camp Perry in the 50s.

I have been told he made the stock, and did the work himself. He didn't have a lot of use for little kids, and by the time I was of age Uncle Sam had me about 12 time zones over.

It is a shame not to have been able to collect the wealth of rifle knowledge he had but I have been able to hang onto quite a few family heirlooms, exposed hammer pump shotguns 16 & 20 ga. 1897s? a 721 300 H&H rechambered to 300 Weatherby that he liked for Africa, some old 22s, this 22 Hornet Savage Walnut Hill.
