well not literally, but I stopped in Cabelas (Suburban STL) yesterday. I was a little bummed since I lost a Gunbroker auction for a SW 4546 and the prices on the 4506's (my second choice) were going for over $500. Figured I would browse the used (but usually overpriced guns), and leave. Something shiny caught my eye. Hey - a 4506 for $389.99 ! Something must be wrong with it I figured. No, only one mag and light handling marks (plus a dirty barrel), but otherwise . . . she was in good shape. With tax, it was $426 and change. With my Cabelas points, two cabelas gift cards, and a gift card visa, I paid $238. Yeah, I stole her. :D

Congrats

That's a great buy. I'd love to have a 4506. I've been looking everywhere. Usually the ones on GB look like they have been beat half to death though and the others go well above $500. Good find though. Enjoy.

Fantastic deal on a superb 45. Congrats!! :) Regards 18DAI

What did the 4546 go for. I have a 4506 and regret selling the 4546 I had.

$601.00

I was in up to $599 but that was stretching things and I would have to sell something afterwards (I just don't like to keep much money in guns).

There really is no telling where it would have ended up if I kept bidding and I didn't want to risk it :D

yes - I owe pics. My bad. busy with work and all.

I did find out that it is one of the early 4506's because it has the squared trigger guard and surprise surprise, the 645 rear sights (but the front sights are dovertailed and not ramped like a 645). It has been a bear trying to fight night sights on it so I just sent it off to Trijicon to let them figure it out.

Pics when I get it back

so I got the slide back from Trijicon. . . excited and couldn't wait to shoot it. Ooops. POI is about 7 inches below POA at 7 yds. Hmmm. Trijicon asked me to send it back. Details to follow.

THIEF !!!!!!!! Sorry, had to say it. You snagged a great gun at a pretty dang good price. I wouldn't sell mine for three times that much......ok, maybe three times.

congrats.... my 4506-1 is still my favorite....but this thread needs a pic.................so...............a shameless opportunity to post mine till yours is ready......:D

great gun and good price. I bought mine new in 1989. Since then I have shot tens of thousands of rds thru it. Also my brother has one as well.

I bought mine almost 19 years ago after my Springfield 1911 was stolen in a breakin. I like it so much I bought a 5906 to match it a few years later. Paid $475 NIB for the 4506 and $400 used w/2 mags and box for the 5906. Love my 4506/5906 and wouldn't sell them for anything.

You gotta stop! Lol my first handgun was a .45 1911 when I turned 21. After a few years of not shooting it much I traded it for more hunting oriented guns. Years later I find myself really kicking myself for that, and had been thinking heavily about getting another 1911. That is, until you guys start posting these S&W 4500 series....and now I want the 4506 in the worst way. Mainly for house duty; I used to think the 1911 was a big gun....I can only imagine the intimidation factor of a 4506! Plus, the S&W's just have all the right lines....if that had been me, I'd have FOUND a way to buy that thing! Congrats!
